It’s amazing how the wisdom of yesterday applies so well to today, isn’t it?
The truth never goes out of style.

Or, in the famous words of Jimmy Buffett,
Make the best of a bad situation,
S’bout all you can do.

I know this to be a fact! I’d dreamed of being a writer all my life, and finally (at age 69) decided it was time to make that dream come true. Seven novels, three novellas, and a book of poetry later, I’m still going. If I can, YOU can! So dream your dream, then make it a reality! You can do it!

After talking to a couple of my blogging friends, I decided “Granny Says” should be a new series here on TWS. I have a large collection of sayings and quotes, ranging from the wise and inspirational to the clever and humorous, and I’ve decided to share them now and then, just for fun.Β (And it helps that they’re ready to go, quick and easy while I’m still dealing with my slow, slow recuperation process.)
Since I started this Mon-Fri week on a humorous note, I figured I’d end it on one, too, hence this line from one of my favorite comedians of all time. Enjoy!

NOTE: Feel free to save the images if you like, and share them anywhere you wish. I’ll attribute the author of theΒ quote when possible, though many of them will be from that famously wise and/or funny soul called “Unknown.”Β

About ten years ago, Mark dug up a smallΒ Zephyr Lily, also called a Rain Lily, from a big, weedy patch along a roadside ditch and brought it home for my garden.Β Over the years, I’ve enjoyed the way the lily blooms after a rain, then often disappears completely. In fact, for the last two years or so, I figured it had finally died. No sign of stems or blooms in all those months. Then we had a monster thunderstorm Friday afternoon, and yesterday, IΒ saw a few stems popping up. This morning, I was greeted by the pale pink splendor of my rain lilies celebrating Friday’s downpour.Β Β

Often the lilies will bloom within 24 hours of a rain, but I suspect they really had languished, and it took a bit longer to work their way to the surface this time. Still, they persevered, and I have gorgeous pink flowers now.
Oh, sure they’ll only last a day or two, but isn’t that what makes them special? That they wait patiently for rainy days, and then shoot straight up in a display of glory?Β That speaks to me, and I believe there’s a lesson to be learned from this little wildflower.
The lilies show me that with determination and the right attitude, we can face drought or monsoon, and still prevail.Β I don’t know about you, but I feel empowered when I see the Miracle of the Rain Lilies. Over and over, throughout the seasons, it reminds me of what we can do once we decide on our course. It’s all in our mindset. We can prevail!Β
