THANK YOU, and a REMINDER!

thank_you_banner-500

Just wanted to start this week with a big THANK YOU (See, all caps. Big.) to everyone who participated in our extended #ExcerptWeek. This was the most successful one, ever, I think, and it’s all because you guys got brave enough to share your work (published or not) with us, AND you shared everyone’s posts with your online groups. Which brings me to the second part of this post.

The Write Stuff was always meant to be a place for writers to share WITH each other (resources, questions, tips) and ABOUT each other. Please remember to Tweet, Reblog, and post on Facebook or your other social media sites. Sharing what others have posted here is how we promote each other, and grow this blog. AND, you can always share any post on the blog at any time. If you forgot to pass something along during #ExerptWeek, for instance, it’s still here. You can still share it.

So, recapping here, thanks to each of you wonderful writers, readers, and bloggers, AND above all, please continue to share!  We’ll do the same for you.

Now. As you were, folks. Have a wonderful week!

#ExcerptWeek Reminder!

Pssst

Hey, Guys!  The rest of the week is going to be filled with a lot of excerpts from MY books, if you’re not careful. Somebody’s gotta play! *wink*

Seriously, it’s Day 4 of Excerpt Week, and no takers? Hard to imagine. This isn’t the largest blog in the world, I know, but still . . . 2,400 folks could see a sample of your writing, accompanied by your Buy Links &  Author Bio, if you could find a few minutes to Cut and Paste an excerpt for us. And that doesn’t count all the friends and followers those 2,400 people could share your post with.

If you don’t know how to share your work, just email me at mmeara@cfl.rr.com, and I’ll help, honest! Hope to see a few excerpts posted when I return from my day’s errands. If not, brace yourself for more of the happenings on Wake-Robin Ridge and in Riverbend. And maybe another poem or two. Fair warning. 😀

#Proofreading – How Important Is It?

Spelling Concept

Of course, it’s very important–absolutely critical to producing a book that impresses readers as being professional. As independent writers, many of know just how quickly reviewers will pick up errors and typos, and then alert the media about same! Here is a link to a great interview that says it all better than I can. Check it out!

I Did It!! #amwriting #Rainbows

Woohoo! I took one look at my dog this morning, and knew this would be the day! Even luckier than a rainbow on the floor is one on a chocolate and tan dachsie. (Look it up. It’s true, I tell you!) So, who am I to scoff in the face of a lucky dachshund, standing in a rainbow? Instead, I sat right down and plowed through the epilogue of my WIP, typing The End at about 3:00 this afternoon. Yep. It’s official! Harbinger is done!! (Okay, except for the editing part, but I still think I can get this out by the end of May. That’s my story, an’ I’m stickin’ to it!)

Happy sigh. After a brief bit of R&R, I’ll start #3 of the Riverbend series, but for now, I’m going to bask in the sense of accomplishment that writing my 5th novel in less than three years has given me. And believe me, it feels FANTASTIC! Will they ever be studying my books in Literature Classes across the country? Nope. Do I care? Not a whit. Because there ARE folks out there who are enjoying them, and that’s what I set out to accomplish. I’m living a dream come true, and couldn’t be happier. (Richer, maybe, but not happier.) 😀

Dreams happen, folks. Never give up!

#ExcerptWeek Newsflash & Reminder

NewsFlash-Thumbnail

Today is the “Official” beginning of Excerpt Week, one of my favorite features on The Write Stuff. Please share excerpts from any of your own writing, be it already published, a work in progress, or an idea you are toying with. Post directly, if you are already an author on TWS, or send your excerpt to me, along with your bio, book covers, and Buy Links, and I’ll post it for you. (Do not post under the comments section of any thread, please.)

Throughout the day today, I’ll be uploading goodies for you to read–AND to SHARE, please. Sharing is the whole purpose of Excerpt Week, and the main focus of this blog, after all. 🙂 Let’s make this Excerpt Week the best one, ever!

We’ve already gotten a wonderful start with an  excerpt from Barb Taub. Might be the most original excerpt I’ve seen to date, but don’t let that stop you. We want to hear from as many more as possible, and I have several that will be coming through today, including my own, to get the week going with a bang. Let’s spread the word–or should I say, let’s spread OUR WORDS?

Looking forward to hearing from many more of you. Have fun, and enjoy the talent we have in this great group of folks.

#ExcerptWeek Starts Monday!

Woohoo! Excerpt week, comin’ up!

Yes, I jumped the gun earlier, and if any of you want to do that over the weekend, feel free, but “officially,” #ExcerptWeek starts Monday and runs until Sunday, April 3. You are invited to share excerpts of anything you’ve written, be it published, a work in progress, or something you’re experimenting with. We’ll pass it along for you. If you have a book out that has slowed down in sales a bit, this might be one good way to put it in front of folks again. There are only a couple of rules and suggestions, to wit:

Any genre is permissible, as long as your excerpt doesn’t include politics, religion, or erotica. Don’t know the difference between sexy and erotica? That’s okay. I do. If in doubt, send me a sample. 🙂

If you are already an author on TWS, please feel free to post your excerpt directly. If not, please email me, and I will post it for you. PLEASE do NOT post your excerpt as a comment under another thread. I will be forced to delete those, and you’ll miss out on sharing with us.

And that’s pretty much it. If you have any questions at all,  contact me at mmeara@cfl.rr.com and I’ll help any way I can.  THANKS.

Just A Reminder, Folks

Remember, please share posts on this blog on all your favorite media sites, especially promos, book news, author interviews, guest blog posts, and anything else that fellow writers would want shared. Send ’em out to Twitter, Facebook, your own blogs . . . everywhere! That’s what The Write Stuff is all about: Writers Helping Writers. And we’ll do the same for you when you share news with us. Spread the word! Thanks!!

First Official #ExcerptWeek of 2016!

books2

Well, that’s it for another year. Christmas is safely back in the boxes and tucked in the attic. My 300+ Santas have been put to rest, alongside various shiny baubles and strings of now-darkened lights. One spray of evergreen boughs are still in the wall vase by the kitchen entryway, where they’ll stay until they are replaced by new greenery next year, and thus will keep Christmas in my house throughout 2016.

I hope your holidays were everything you love and cherish, and you are each ready to see what the New Year will bring. I know I am.

Here on The Write Stuff, I have ideas for some new features that I hope will be both entertaining and inspiring, and I’m eagerly waiting to see what each of you might contribute, as well. To start things off, I hereby proclaim that this is Excerpt Week, and I’ll be sharing one with you shortly. You are all invited to share excerpts of your own between now and Sunday night. Of course, you can always share excerpts, any time you wish, but during this week, I hope we’ll see bunches of folks taking the time to contribute, and lots of stuff coming through.

You may share excerpts from published work, or a Work In Progress, whatever you’d enjoy having us read and comment on. Please feel free to include your Buy Links for your books, as well as a bio to let new followers know a bit about you. And EVERYONE can participate. If you are already set up to publish new posts here, have at it whenever you like. If not, and you’d like to be, just email me and I’ll explain your options.  mmeara@cfl.rr.com

My only restrictions on subject matter are these: Nothing political, and nothing erotic. Sexy is okay, and I trust you to know where to draw the line. Other than that, feel free to share what you’d like, and we’ll pass it along on Facebook, Twitter, or by reblogging. Hopefully, you’ll find some new readers that way. Most of all, have fun sharing!

I wish you all a happy and fulfilling 2016! Now let the fun begin.

Thank You & Some News

thank_you_banner-500

A big thank you to everyone who participated in #ExcerptWeek, whether by sharing some of your work, or by taking the time to read, comment on, and pass along  the work of others. It was a great week, and I had such a fun time seeing what you’ve all written. We’ll do it again soon.

In the meantime, please don’t forget that  this is a community board, and you are encouraged to share excerpts, promos, news, resources, ideas, and questions any time you want. The more the better. An active blog draws more eyes, and as writers, eyes are what we want, right? So post often, and remember to share what you read here, thanks.

Now for the news. I’m planning several new things for this blog, and one of them is Fabulous Friday Guest Bloggers. Starting this Friday, I’ll be hosting guest bloggers, as you probably figured out from that title, as often as I can find folks who want to participate. I’m probably going to surprise you by not announcing who my guest will be until Thursday, so stay tuned for that news. Hope this will be something you’ll all enjoy. I know I’m going to!

And that’s it for now. Will post my #RomancingSeptember links shortly. Have a great week, everyone.

Excerpt Week Coming Up!

summer-reading4

As promised, starting Monday, we have an “event.” Excerpt week. The rules are simple. Post an excerpt of your own work from any source,  published or unpublished, novel, short story, poem, whatever you like. Give us a taste of what you’ve written, and include any pertinent links to places where we can buy the book/story, if it is already “out there.”

The excerpt can be as long as a full chapter, or as short as a couple of paragraphs. If it runs more than 2 or 3 paragraphs, just use the “Read More” link to continue it, so it doesn’t take up too much space on the Home Page. (If you don’t know how to do that, don’t worry. I’ll be happy to do it for you. )

Feel free to upload cover shots or other images, too. Make it good. We’re going to send it all over the place!

If you aren’t a regular contributor here, email me  at mmeara@cfl.rr.com and I’ll either make you one (if you like), or I’ll post your excerpt for you.

And if no one else plays, you guys are going to get an awful lot of Rabbit, Gunnar Wolfe and Maggie, MacKenzie Cole and Sarah, and Hunter Painter and Willow.  😀 But I’d rather not be all alone here, so first thing Monday, the game is on. And, tada! You may post as many times as you wish throughout the week, until next Sunday night. SO … put your words up here, and we will share the heck out of them, pointing new readers to your books as fast as we can!

Have fun!!
