Just a Reminder!

Just a reminder! I hope those of you in central Florida will consider joining us Saturday for a light lunch and a presentation on how things have changed in the writing and publishing world over the last 100 years. I uncovered so many interesting things when researching this talk for the traveling Smithsonian exhibit that I’ve been asked to present it again at several local venues, and I would dearly LOVE to meet YOU there! I’ll be available for a book signing afterward, as well. Come say hi!

NOTE: Reservations are necessary for this event. You may call the number at the top of the poster, OR 386 804 6987

I’m (Almost) Back & Update on Afternoon Tea, April 22

DeBary Hall Historic Site

Warning: Attending a four-year-old’s birthday party can be hazardous to your health. We had a wonderful time in Charleston, and I’m so glad we were able to go, but darn if I didn’t wake up on our last day with a fiery sore throat. It has progressively gotten worse, going through every step of a typical bad cold/flu bug. Today is somewhat better, but I’m spending more time in bed than vertical, so my posts will be sporadic a bit longer.

I did want to remind anyone in the central Florida area that I’ll be doing another Afternoon Tea/Luncheon at the fabulous DeBary Hall mansion, April 22, 11:30 AM to 2:30PM. For those who’d like to come, your $20 ticket includes my custom teas (named for characters in my books), a yummy lunch with even yummier desserts, a reading from my latest book, That Darkest Place, a Question & Answer session (usually a ton of laughs), and a signed copy of one of my books, your choice.  Such a deal, right?? 🙂

Reservations are required. If you are planning to join us, the deadline to register is April 17, and we need your payment by then, so that we know how many lunches to order. Checks should be made payable to Marcia Meara, and sent either directly to DeBary Hall, or to me. (See below).

You may also drop your check off at the hall, if you live nearby. Remember, we must receive these by April 17 so we can order your lunch from the caterer.

I can pretty much guarantee a fun time at this event, and I’m looking forward to seeing you there. Don’t miss out!!

Join Me on a #MeetTheAuthor #EcoTour on the Fabulous St. Johns River

Cruising the St. Johns Aboard the Naiad

Start your new year off right! Spend two hours on the fabulous St. Johns River, surrounded by scenic beauty, fantastic birds and wildlife, and a bit of Florida history.  Join me on Saturday, January 14, for a fun afternoon tour, with a  brief pause midway for a reading from my latest book. When we return to the marina, I’ll be available to sign books for anyone interested.

Me, with My Son & DiL’s Dog, Happy.
(Sorry. You’ll Have to Settle for Just Me on the Tour.)

This is the tour that inspired my Riverbend series, and while we’ve had to say a sad goodbye to Captain Jeanne Bell (who will live forever in our hearts), Doug Little will share his extensive knowledge of the river’s wildlife and history with you. Doug is a first-rate photographer, and thus, was the inspiration for Gunnar Wolfe in Swamp Ghosts, a fact he will be sure to share with you.  😀

Barred Owls Are Often Seen on the Tour, Up Close and Personal

Breathtakingly Beautiful Purple Gallinules Nest on Portions of the St. Johns

The tour leaves Highbanks Marina, in DeBary Florida, at 1:30PM, but be there earlier. Perhaps 1:00 to 1:15. You don’t want to get left behind.

For reservations, call 386-626-9004.

I hope you folks who are in the area will come along for a great afternoon. It’s a terrific, peaceful way to unwind, accompanied by lots of moments of high interest and/or excitement when something really cool is spotted. Large alligators, baby alligators, birds of all kinds, manatees, deer, and even black bears have been seen while cruising on the Naiad, so mark you calendars now!

Here are a few of the things you might spot!

BIG Alligator

Not So Big Alligators

Florida Black Bear

Southern Bald Eagle

Great Egret
(Though probably not in breeding plumage this time of year.)

Remember: Call 386-626-9004 for Reservations!
Hope to see you there!

Join me on Thursday, December 8, at 1:30pm, for a two-hour ecotour on the beautiful St. Johns River, with a brief break mid-point for a reading and some Q&A. See the REAL Florida from the comfort of the Naiad, while enjoying nature in all its glory. Birds, alligators, manatees, bears, deer, and more can be spotted during these tours. The ecotour departs from Highbanks Marina, in DeBary, and is the best bang for your buck in all of central Florida. Call Doug at (386) 626-9004 to make your reservations today! You’ll be glad you did!

Meet the Author Eco Tours Coming Up!

Great Egret

If any of you guys are going to be in central Florida on Saturday, April 25, or Tuesday, April 28, maybe you might have time to come for a fun trip on the St. Johns River. Captain Jeanne Bell and her photographer husband, Doug Little, have invited me to do a Meet the  Author tour with them, at 1:30 both days. Here’s the way the press release reads:

“Best selling Amazon author, Marcia Meara, will be conducting a Meet the Author talk onboard the Naiad, her inspiration for the Undine, in her novel Swamp Ghosts. Accompanying her for a tour of the scenic St. Johns River will be Captain Jeanne Bell, a/k/a/ Maggie Devlin, in Swamp Ghosts.

At 1:30 PM on Saturday April 25, and again on Tuesday April 28, the Naiad will leave from Highbanks Marina, located at 488 W. Highbanks Road, DeBary, FL.  We will retrace the tour that inspired the author to write Swamp Ghosts, accompanied by the individuals who are characterized in the book. Enjoy a beautiful, nature-filled afternoon aboard the Naiad, and find out how it all came about.

After the tour, Marcia will be available to autograph copies of her books. Sign up for her monthly newsletter, and you’ll receive a free download of Summer Magic: Poems of Life & Love

Don’t miss out on a relaxing, fun-filled afternoon on the river. For reservations, call St. Johns River Eco Tours at 386-626-9004.”

I’m really looking forward to this. I’ll be doing a reading at the beginning of the tour, and another at the end, and then just chatting with everyone about the book, and some of the things featured in the story, like the difference between albino and leucistic reptiles–or whatever the good passengers want to talk about. Plus, we’ll be stopping to view alligators and birds, and any other interesting wildlife along the way.

Of course, I know most of you probably can’t do this, even if you’d like to, but I wanted to share, and I hope you’ll pass the info along to your followers everywhere, in case some of them can. And even if you can’t come along on this particular tour, believe me, the regular narrated trip is fantastic, and well worth the price of the tickets.

You can book tours any time here: St. Johns River Eco Tours Click on Book Now. Scroll down to the Swamp Ghost tours (in red) to book one of mine, or stop on any other day that fits your schedule to book a “normal” tour.
