Today we have another book for the younger crowd, and it’s a new release with an adorable cover! This author has published works in the YA and children’s genres, but also has a MG fantasy and a women’s fiction she’s shopping around with agents. When it comes to sleeping in a coffin or spending the night in a haunted house? She’s done both. Welcome D.G. Driver!

Would you rather sleep in a coffin for one night or spend the night in a haunted house?

Back when I was 21, I was in this terrible play called Countess Dracula, and I played a crazy vampire. My first appearance was rising out of a coffin, so I had to get in it before the audience came in (no curtain at this theater) and lie in there for a good forty-five minutes. It was not fun. I have also spent the night in…

Engaging With Your Readers

A most useful post on Story Empire today by Joan Hall. I have to say, I agree with everything she says about engaging with the folks who follow your blogs. Please do check it out, and see what you think. A couple of her comments really hit home with me. I do hope you’ll remember to share it far and wide, so other people can ponder Joan’s thoughts, too. Thanks, and thank you Joan for pointing out some things I think folks should heed. Great post! 🙂

Hey, SE Readers. Joan with you today. In my last post, I wrote about essentials for your author website. Today, let’s talk about engaging with your readers.

We work hard to build our blog readership, which we hope will lead to people purchasing our books. There are no hard and fast rules, and you’re probably doing most of these things already. However, I hope you’ll find these few tips beneficial.

  • Always respond to readers. If someone takes their valuable time to comment, recognize them. It doesn’t have to be a long response. Depending on the comment, it could be as simple as saying, “Thank you for visiting today.” Nothing is more discouraging for a reader than to have their words go unnoticed. It also sends a message that you don’t have time for them.
  • If a reader asks a question, provide them with an answer. If you don’t know…

#BadMoonRising Borne of the Deep (Salem Hawley #2) by Michael Patrick Hicks #horror #seaadventures #TuesdayBookBlog

Author Michael Patrick Hicks is Teri Polen’s guest today on Bad Moon Rising, and just in time for some really scary Halloween reading, too. You’ll definitely want to check out his very entertaining, but super spooky post! And then, I hope you’ll remember to share it with the Immediate World so others can check it out as well. Thanks, and yet another big, hearty thank-you to Teri for this terrific October feature! 🙂

Today’s author is no stranger to Bad Moon Rising. He’s here with his newest release, part two of the Salem Hawley series. It’s currently a Kindle Countdown Deal priced at $0.99 for the next four days – take advantage of it now! He’s another author who has been kept awake by a King novel – but not for the reason you’d think. Welcome Michael Patrick Hicks!

Would you rather sleep in a coffin for one night or spend the night in a haunted house?

Oh man, this one’s actually a toughie! I’m a side-sleeper and I move around a lot in my sleep, which makes me think a coffin might not be ideal for rest. And would the top be open or closed, because that then raises issues of potential claustrophobia… I’m just gonna go with haunted house because even if it scares me to death, at least I’ll have…

#GuestDayTuesday – She Made It Matter – Chiara Talluto

Today, I’d like to welcome Chiara Talluto. Chiara is going to tell us a bit about herself and share an excerpt from her book, She Made It Matter.  I feel certain you’ll enjoy it!

Author Chiara Talluto

“I’m not a bestselling author, I’m just a ‘nobody’ who uses storytelling to encourage others to find their purpose and save their souls.”

Hello, my name is Chiara Talluto. I’m a wife, busy mom, author, and a woman after God’s heart. As I ponder this declaration, I find it more appropriate to claim that I am a woman after God’s heart first. He has given me a gift of writing, and I honor Him through my written works. So, pull up a chair and stay awhile.

People often ask what kind of writing I do. I tell them… I write Inspirational/Christian drama empowering women to discover their faith, use perseverance to overcome adversity, and become heroes of their own destinies. I also write middle-grade fantasy-fairy tales to encourage girls in developing strong morals and values, and to always stand up for what is right.

My first books were the Nancy Drew series and Hardy Boys books. The library was a couple miles away and I rode my bike to and from almost every day, I couldn’t get enough of the stories. I began keeping a journal at the age of eleven. Soon, I began writing poems. My love for the written word was sparked by all that reading. It wasn’t until my late teens that I discovered Danielle Steele novels and began to pen stories of my own. I continued writing longer prose as much as I could during a prosperous career as a Human Resources Recruiter, and then as an Instructional Designer. I received many awards and accolades for my accomplishments, and my work responsibilities grew, but there was something missing. I began to devote less and less time to my joy of writing. And soon, my creativity began to suffer. It wasn’t until after much soul-searching and some tough decision-making that I finally left the corporate world to start writing full-time. That was fifteen years ago.

Today, I am the CEO of my home, practicing wife to my husband, mommy to our two daughters, and writer of all things that need to be put on paper. My family often tells me that I am the Master Storyteller in our household because I have a passion for writing about people who struggle with decisions and conflicts that arise in their lives.

In the last six years, I’ve been blessed to have published four books:  A Christian Romance, Love’s Perfect Surrender, two middle-grade fantasy-fairy tales: Petrella, the Gillian Princess and A Tribute to Tulipia, and an Inspirational fiction, She Made It Matter.

All of my writings contain an element of Christianity and faith. I never set out to be a writer, or a Christian writer for that matter, it just happened. It’s who I am and who I was meant to be. Writing is my outlet, a spilling of emotions, random thoughts, and imaginary characters that consume my mind twenty-four hours a day. I need to write, just like I need to eat, exercise, and breathe.

She Made It Matter
Can she forgive her past and make her life right again?

Chicago, Illinois – From the three-time Five Star Readers’ Favorite REVIEW RECIPIENT, Chiara Talluto, author of Love’s Perfect  Surrender, Petrella, the Gillian Princess, and A Tribute To Tulipia, comes the highly anticipated release of She Made It Matter, an inspirational fiction SLATED TO BE IN bookstores everywhere on November, 2nd 2020, and Ebook on all online retailers, October 27th, 2020.

She Made It Matter is a compelling tale of one woman’s fight to regain sobriety, find salvation, and earn forgiveness after years of guilt from being abandoned by her mother and then losing her brother to cancer, a struggle to vanquish the demons of her past and make her life right again.

This story tackles the difficult subjects of family abandonment, alcohol abuse, and food dependencies; compulsions and addictions caused by the trauma of one’s past.

Amanda Reynolds is vulnerable. Like most humans we err and make mistakes, and harbor grudges and secrets that can create huge reservoirs of pain if not addressed. Amanda is stuck in the past, and stuck in the pain, and the only way to cope with it is alcohol.

WHILE WRITING the story, Chiara thought about her own idols and addictions and how she could break them. She thought about how a person with a perfect life is able to throw it all away over something that consumes their mind and body. She thought about a person who cannot move forward because of horrible past experiences. She pondered the ongoing domestic abuse and abandonment of children in our society. Most importantly, Ms. Talluto thought about the human condition, and the temptations that can lure one in the wrong direction.

Ms. Reynolds has to face her fears and QUASH the demons of her past so that she can live again. It is a daring attempt to confront things head on. But, we are encouraged to know that tough situations don’t last long; BUT tough people do.

… The work ABOUT addiction is heart-breakingly accurate, delivering a realistic emotional quality which both endears Amanda to us as a character and also teaches important real life lessons about the judgments we often place on people who are alcohol dependent… (K.C. Finn from Readers’ Favorite)

… Author Chiara Talluto gives the reader a realistic tale of someone searching for a purpose, for validation that they mean something, that they are worth more than just being left or abandoned… (Michelle Randall from Readers’ Favorite)

She Made It Matter is available in print and electronic editions everywhere books are sold. More information on the author and all her writings can be found at www.chiaratalluto.com

BACK JACKET BLURB:
Don’t turn back. Begin anew.

Thirty-six-year-old Amanda Reynolds has it all. She has a loving, successful husband, two beautiful daughters and a perfect, manicured home in a quaint suburb of Chicago.

But demons hide where no one looks and Amanda’s past is full of them—she’s addicted to alcohol. The reasons for her addiction have been buried for years.

One horrifying day, suppressed memories resurface and Amanda drinks herself into a stupor in front of her daughters. Waking up in the hospital, the realization is clear: get clean or lose everything.

Amanda sets off on a daring journey taking her across the US in an attempt to vanquish the demons that have plagued her life.

Will Amanda defeat her alcohol addiction?

Will her family forgive her?

Can she break away from her past, find her self-worth, and restart again?

#BadMoonRising Of Witches… by Steve Stred #horror #occult

Today’s Bad Moon Rising post features author Steve Stred, who writes “dark, bleak horror fiction,” and has some very interesting answers to his interview questions. Be sure to stop by and take a look, and if you would, please pass the post along far and wide so others can meet Steve, too. Thanks and thanks to Teri for hosting this super spooky series! 🙂

Teri Polen's avatarBooks and Such

If you’re a witch fan or just looking for some creepy Halloween tales, this author’s collection of short stories and illustrations could be just what you need. Read below about his harrowing experience with a Ouija board after the tragic death of a friend and why he’s scarred for life by the Tristar Pictures music and Pegasus. Welcome Steve Stred!

Has a movie or book scared you so much you couldn’t sleep? Which one?

When I was younger we had an unconventional ‘Christmas’ movie that we’d watch each and every Christmas. The Monster Squad. I don’t know why that ended up being our Christmas movie, but it did and when I first watched it I was maybe 6 or 7 and it scared me so bad. Each year, I would be petrified of it and it gave me a lifelong fear of Werewolves. Additionally, for many years after first watching…

#BadMoonRising The Alexanders 1911-1920 Vol 1 by Allan Hudson #thriller #historicalfiction

Yesterday’s guest on Teri Polen’s Bad Moon Rising was Allan Hudson, and I think you’ll really enjoy this interview and learning more about his books, too. I highly recommend you stop by to check out the post, if you missed it yesterday! Don’t forget to pass it along, if you can, so others can enjoy it as well. Thanks and thanks again to Teri for hosting this month-long event! 🙂

Part of the fun of Bad Moon Rising is meeting new authors and learning about their books. Today’s author is making his debut with BMR. He writes crime fiction, thrillers, and has published a collection of short stories. The book that kept him awake was written by – you probably guessed it – Stephen King. Welcome Allan Hudson!

Has a movie or book scared you so much that you couldn‛t sleep? Which one?

I remember reading It by Stephen King. While it didn’t keep me up all night, it caused me to wake and feel like Pennywise the clown was watching me, as if he was in the room. It was the only book that really scared me.

Name three items you’d take to spend the night in a haunted house.

I would take a cross, a hunting knife and the most comfortable running shoes I own.

Would you rather…

Five Things to Do to Combat Burnout

John Howell has an excellent post on Story Empire today on how to combat Burnout! I suspect many of us have suffered with this to one degree or another, and John offers some very useful commonsense tips you might want to take note of. I did. Hope you’ll stop by and check out his suggestions and then will pass this along so others can take advantage of them, too. Thanks and thanks to John for a timely and helpful post. 🙂

John W. Howell's avatarStory Empire

Hello, SEers, it’s John with you again. Today I would like to discuss a condition whose very existence is hardly ever acknowledged and certainly not discussed openly. The condition that I mention is an affliction with many labels but is most commonly known as burnout.

Pixabay Image

Burnout can happen to anyone on any occasion and any activity. Burnout can occur at a point in a task where the individual has spent too many hours facing the same situation with the same unsatisfactory results.

Pixabay Image

So, what does burnout have to do with writing? Like any activity, writing is not immune to stress-inducing situations that require diligence to overcome. For example, think of drafting a 96,000-word manuscript and then realizing that the ending falls flat. The ending left unfixed would ruin the entire book. Depending on the amount of work put into the document, this realization could push one…

Catching Up – #amwriting #MondayBlogs

HELP! Where Did All My Writing Time Go?

Happy Moon’s Day, Folks! I hope this Monday morning finds you in good health and good spirits. Just wanted to take a moment to let you know that my blog posts may be spotty for a bit. I have finally come to the conclusion that I am never going to get caught up again in this lifetime, but I can’t keep floundering in a sea of To Do Items and ignoring my writing. Sad but true, the time comes in life when we no longer have quite the energy or stamina we once did, and we have to slow the pace a bit.

As a result of the above-mentioned (and truly annoying) energy decrease, I haven’t written a word in months, and it’s making me very unhappy. Therefore, I’ve decided I’m  going to take some time to write each day (at least until I get my 4th Riverbend novel completed) even if it has an impact on my blog posts and my blog visits. I’ll do the very best I can to keep up with both, but if I miss some of my regular features or a stop or two at my favorite blogs, please forgive me. And don’t be alarmed. It just means I’m working on my book.

I know most of you will understand how frustrating it is to want to write but not have time to do so. (And the pandemic isolation, oddly enough, was not at all conducive to the process for many of us, either.) The good news is, I started said book Friday and managed to get the short prologue and the first two scenes of Chapter 1 written. Words cannot express what a difference even that little bit has made in my overall mood. Stress levels are definitely lower, and I’m actually smiling again.

I have #GuestDayTuesday posts scheduled for several more weeks, and will definitely be reblogging Bad Moon Rising posts through the month’s end, and Story Empire posts always, so it won’t be completely empty here. I plan to touch base at least weekly, and I’ll try to find time for other goodies here and there, too, though I’m not going to promise when or how often. Once I’ve made substantial progress on this story, I’m sure things will starting heading back to normal, but until then, I hope you’ll all understand if you see less of me online for a few weeks.

Thanks so much, and now, the Painter Brothers are demanding my attention. They have some interesting things happening in their lives, and some new characters coming into play. Must. Go. Write.

Yes I know these three guys are really actors, but in MY world,
they are Hunter, Forrest, and Jackson Painter, and I’ve
truly missed them! 🙂 ❤

#BadMoonRising The Tower in the Mist by Deby Fredericks #darkfantasy #thriller

Deby Fredericks is Teri Polen’s guest today on Bad Moon Rising. Hope you’ll take a few minutes to check out her interview and her books. And please remember to pass the post along on your favorite social media sites so others can enjoy this one, too. Thanks, and thanks as always to Teri for opening her blog to so many interesting writers this month! 🙂

Teri Polen's avatarBooks and Such

Happy Saturday! Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend. Grab a cup of coffee if that’s your beverage of choice (it’s a stiff cup of hot chocolate for me), sit back and enjoy the interview with today’s author. She’s a repeat visitor to Bad Moon Rising and may surprise you with her answer to the movie that kept her up at night. Welcome Deby Fredericks!

Has a movie or book scared you so much that you couldn‛t sleep? Which one?

The Chuck Norris movie, Silent Rage. A mentally unstable man is experimented on and effectively can‛t be killed, but he‛s an insane killer now. Good job, mad scientist! That one kept me up at night.

If you were in a horror movie, would you rather have a loaded gun or a car that wouldn‛t break down?

My priority would be to get out of that whole situation, so I‛d take…

#BadMoonRising If Darkness Takes Us by Brenda Marie Smith #postapocalyptic #thriller

Author Brenda Marie Smith is being featured today on Teri Polen’s Bad Moon Rising post. Very clever and entertaining interview and a couple of super scary sounding books, too. You’ll definitely enjoy checking this one out, and I hope you’ll also remember to pass it along so others can enjoy it, too. Thanks, and thanks again, Teri. I’m SO loving this great October series! 🙂

You may remember this author from last year’s Bad Moon when she introduced this book. It’s being featured again this year – but she has a blurb for part two, If the Light Should Come, which will be released June 29, 2021! Find out what she listens to while writing to set the tone for her apocalyptic novel – perfectly understandable. Welcome Brenda Marie Smith!

Would you rather sleep in a coffin for one night or spend the night in a haunted house?

It depends on where the coffin is and whether or not it can be left open. No way I’m sleeping in a closed coffin until I’m dead, at which point I won’t actually be sleeping. But I could do an open coffin as long as it’s in a relatively safe place. If both these conditions can’t be met, then I’ll grab some ghost-busting weapons and take…
