#Update on #Idalia & a Big #ThankYou

Thanks so much for all the well-wishes, everyone! We made it through the storm with no serious damage, thankfully. Just a fair amount of rain and some gusty winds here and there. The storm made landfall farther north than originally predicted, so that saved us, and spared my son & family, as well. Sadly, there’s been a lot of water damage from storm surge along the coast, and Idalia (while mostly gone from Florida) isn’t done yet. Please keep others who may find themselves in her path in your thoughts and prayers.

I also want to say I may be a wee bit scarce for a couple more days as I’m dealing with some issues relating to a bit of oral surgery, the resulting infection, and a good bit of pain. GAH. In the famous words of Roseanne Roseannadanna, “It’s AAAAAALLL-ways sumthin’!” Hopefully, this will be over soon, and things will be back to normal (such as it is around here).

In the meantime, hope you all have a great rest of the week, and avoid any random hurricanes that might show up near you.

Be Back Soon!

  1. Glad you are OK. Take care of the mouth situation. On a side note, our little rescue dog was named Dahlia when we got her. I shortened it to Lia as it suited her better. I was not surprised when I saw they named a hurricane after her. Idalia is close enough to Dahlia. And she is a hurricane I tell you!! Keep smiling.

    • Dahlia is a lovely name for a doggie, Darlene, and she may be a bit of a hurricane, but she’s YOUR hurricane, and I know you love her. I am on antibiotics, and have at least two more dental procedures that will have to be done before this is over. BUT, I have faith in my NEW dentist and she will fix what the other one screwed up. It’s just going to take a little while. All will be well soon! 😀 ❤

    • Thanks, Nancy. Sometimes bad things decide to happen all at once, but I’m determined that once this is over, GOOD things will start happening all at once, instead! 😁Will be back to blogging as usual before you know it! 😀 ❤

    • Thank you, Joan! It’s a huge relief when the all clear is sounded, and I can let go of some of the tension and worry. And thanks for the well wishes, too. My NEW dentist assures me she can take care of what the last one did, and I’m eager to get rid of this wretched pain! Hopefully it won’t be a problem too much longer. 😀 ❤

  2. Keep dodging those bullets, Marcia. I guess we get used to living with what is typical for our area. Our chief force of nature where we live is earthquakes, and now we see to have a high preponderance of wildfires. Is any place left on Earth truly safe?

    • As hurricanes go, Pete, believe me, I have been through far, far worse. This is NOT to say that there hasn’t been some serious damage to certain areas, and sadly, some injuries/fatalities. Just that there’ve been far fewer of both than I’ve seen in storms over the decades. Most of Florida was being pretty fortunate this time around, though my heart goes out to those who had homes along the Gulf. The flood surge was absolutely awful.

(And earthquakes would terrify me even more. At least with hurricanes, we have warnings well ahead and can get out of Dodge if need be.)

  3. Oh, thank goodness! I’m relieved you were spared the wrath of this hurricane. I’m so sorry about the oral surgery though. I’ll keep you in my prayers and send lots of love. ❤️🙏🏼❤️

  4. I’m so glad that you and the family have escaped Idalia unscathed, but I’m so sorry to hear about your dentist problems. It’s good to know that you have a dentist who can sort out the problem but it’s awful that the earlier procedure has gone so badly and resulted in pain and infection. Prayers through the ether for a swift recovery and for those good things to all start happening at once – you’re certainly overdue that! ❤ ❤ ❤

    • This is (literally) one of those “into each life some rain must fall” moments, for sure, Trish, and I appreciate your thoughts and prayers greatly. I’m thanking my lucky stars that I was never even tempted to buy a house along the Atlantic OR the Gulf Coasts. Watching huge houses atop sand dunes slide right into the ocean last year, along with seeing homes on the Gulf fill to the rooftops with water have proved to me yet again that living in the center of Florida is a much smarter choice.

As for the tooth situation, I had the same excellent dentist for over twenty years, but when our insurance changed, I lost him. My first endeavor to find a new one resulted in an awful mess, but I think I’ve found a good replacement. Now to get this infection and accompanying pain banished for good! I think (hope!) we’re on the right track.

Fingers crossed I’ll soon be able to catch up with all my blogging friends again, and thanks so much for your kind words! 😀 ❤

  5. So glad to hear this, Marcia. I haven’t been online much recently, but you and your hubby have been in my prayers. I’m glad everyone made it through safely. The pictures I’ve seen of areas hardest hit are jaw-dropping, and it looks like there is still a lot of concern for tornadoes, especially going north up the coast.

Sending you healing vibes and prayers after the oral surgery. You didn’t need that on top of the hurricane!

    • Thanks so much for your kind words, Mae. Most of Florida was very lucky during this hurricane, but if you build a house along either Gulf, you are pretty much a sitting duck. The flood surge was the big factor for the coastline this time, and it took a pretty bad hit, for sure. And yep, the whole state has been under a tornado warning for two days now, so there’s still that to worry about. Tornados are the worst. Like earthquakes, you get no real warning before hey hit. With hurricanes, you pretty much know ahead whether you need to evacuate or not. The lives lost in Hurricane Ian were pretty much all do to people ignoring the evacuation orders. *sigh* (I can guarantee you that if our area is ever told to evacuate, Mark & I & all four cats will be OUTTA HERE. (Hasn’t happened in my lifetime, but it could.)

The dental thing has been one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had, and I’m praying that the THIRD time around with the antibiotics will finally get rid of the infection. I’d like that to be gone before the rest of the restoration work is done, plus I’m worn out with dealing with the pain.

Having said all of that, I’m optimistic that all this drama will soon be history! 😀 ❤

    • So glad it missed you, Jeanne. We didn’t get any damage from the storm either, and only minimal wind gusts & slight rain. Thanks for the well wishes on the dental stuff. I’m ready for this to be resolved and for the pain to go AWAY! Hopefully on the right track with that now. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Vera. We were lucky and once again, glad we never even considered buying a house along either coastline. Your assessment of the oral surgery/pain is right on. No fun at all. In fact, pretty much misery all around. But hopefully, this will be cleared up soon and my life can return to normal. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Jackie. We came through fine, and will soon be carting everything back outside that we brought into the porch area so the wind wouldn’t be using every clay pot as a lethal flying missile. We only got a few gusts, and one brief rain shower, but I’m fine with that. Much better than riding out a hurricane! Things will soon be back to something at least AKIN to normal around here. In the meantime, happy travels to you! 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Robbie. You asked in an earlier post about whether we get hurricanes every year in Florida, and the answer is yes. We have an “official” Hurricane Season that runs from June 1 to November 30 every year. Storms build in the Atlantic (or Gulf of Mexico) throughout that period and are tracked carefully to ascertain whether they are likely to hit Florida. We don’t have a direct hit every year, but the likelihood is always out there.

The good news is, the National Hurricane Center tracks every single storm and we are alerted to potential dangers early. If they designate an area for mandatory evacuation, folks need to get OUT. Those who ignore these warnings do so at their own peril, and often do not survive. We live in the center of the state and have never been told to evacuate, though we do have certain recommended procedures to follow if a storm is coming. We make sure we have enough food to last a few days if stores are down, plenty of drinking water, a bathtub filled with water for other uses, etc. Mark and I also have a generator that runs on gas and lets us power up our refrigerator, a few lamps, and a small window a/c since these storms always come at the hottest part of the year.

I sincerely hope we are through with direct hits from these storms for this year, though. Ready for them or not, it’s no fun, even if you manage to avoid injury or damage to your house.

Thanks again for your well wishes. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Cathy. We didn’t even end up with small debris to rake. SO much luckier than those living along the Gulf Coast, and some folks farther north.

And I agree 100% on the bad dentist. Walking into that office was the worst mistake I ever made when it comes to dental care! I’m paying for it now, for sure, but hopefully it will soon get better. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks, Olga. For us in Central Florida, things are fine. No power loss (unlike 469,000 other Florida residents), and no wind or water damage. (Pretty much because we got no real wind or water.) We were very lucky, unlike those who lived along the Gulf coast.

And thanks for the well wishes, too. My NEW dentist seems to be doing everything right, and hopefully this ordeal will soon be coming to an end. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Denise. We were lucky that the storm stayed west of us and came across the state way north of us. The folks along the coast got as much as 7 to 10 feet storm surge, though, and lots of damage from that. Last time I checked the news, Idalia was still working through South Carolina and into the south part of North Carolina. Not sure where it is by now. Hopefully FAR out to sea!

The dental infection is getting better by the day, and hopefully will be all squared away before too much longer. Thanks again for the well wishes! 😀 ❤

  6. Sending the best and grooviest thoughts your way! My husband also has a never-ending list of dental issues he’s constantly working through. We’ve become masters of the soft food list. Please take care!!

    • I can sympathize with your hubby. I’m really tired of mashed potatoes (which as a diabetic, I’m not even supposed to eat!) and Glucerna protein drinks. But for a while there, I could NOT chew anything else at all. Things are improving though, so I hope the end is in sight.

Thanks for your kind words, and hope your husband’s issues are dealt with soon, too. 😀 ❤
