Here We Go Again! #HurricaneWatch for ALL of Florida – #HurricaneNicole

Just a quick heads up that we have what could be a pretty big hurricane aimed at us here in Florida, yet again. With visions of the horror that was Ian, I’m a wee bit nervous tonight, as you might imagine.

This could impact us directly by late Wednesday afternoon, but I’ll keep you posted, if possible. (You never know if or when power might go with these.)  I’m hoping it ends up veering out into the middle of the Atlantic and disappearing off the face of the earth! If all goes well, I’ll see you on the other side, WITHOUT a tree falling on our house a third time!

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming!

    • This is getting really OLD this year, isn’t it? Hopefully, this one won’t ever make full hurricane strength, but they are predicting a serious storm surge along the east coast of Florida, if nothing else. It kinda looks like Ian coming back to take care of the OTHER side of the state. And we still have standing water through downtown Sanford from IT. Hopefully our area will be safe, but you can never tell. Hope YOU will be safe, too!!

    • Thanks, Jan. It looks like some serious storm surge along the east coast if nothing else, but we’ve been told to prepare for the worst. *sigh* It’s raining here this morning, already, though I don’t know if it’s storm related or not. Will update you guys when I can.

    • Ain’t that the truth, Pete! The past two years have been full of hits of every kind, for many, many people. I think we’re due for some smoother sailing, and sure hope there will be some in the very near future. Thanks for the prayers! We’ll take ’em!

    • Thanks, Debby. Life has been upside for two years now, counting COVID, etc. I’m SO ready for this stuff to ease up a bit. And I’m truly praying this storm fizzles out and we don’t get even deeper flooding in Sanford than what’s still there from Ian. Will update when I can, and I appreciate you stopping by! Hope all is well with you?

      • It sure has been a challenging few years and no real let us, what with bills rising so sharply for even essential stuff, quite apart from Covid still lurking and occasionally springing back with a new variant. I’m still not legally allowed to drive (another 10 days, yay!) because of the new hip, and it’s healing, but slowly, which is tiresome. I’m taking the enforced downtime to clear the desk and catch up on all the admin I haven’t done while writing the commissioned equestrian book I managed to hand in just before going into hospital!

        • I am so impressed with all you do, Debby, and glad to hear that your hip is healing, even though I’m sure you wish it would just hurry up and be done with that! Good on you for using the downtime to accomplish other things that often fall through the cracks when normal activities are going on. I tried to do that when I could, too, but now that I’m feeling better every day, I’m very happy to get back to the things I love most.

And you are on the money with the last couple of years being very challenging for most of us. So many things wrong at one time, and frustrations mounting daily. I’m hoping for things to change for the better for all of us soon. We’ve earned a break, right?

Take care of yourself, and here’s to a pain-free hip very, very soon!!! 😀 ❤

    • Crossed fingers are also gratefully accepted, Olga. Thanks!! And I’m hoping for the best down here. Like Pete said above, the hits just keep on coming, but really, some of them need to stop! Will update when I can.

    • Gale force winds are bad enough, Harmony It doesn’t take a full-on hurricane to cause flooding and damage, so I hope yours will go away SOON!!

And thanks for the well wishes. I’m extra nervous over this one, because half the state is still dealing with damages from Ian. We can’t afford more flooding, and we certainly don’t want more loss of life. I’ve forgotten the exact count, but it was well over 100 people during Ian! So it definitely is scary to see another one on the way. Gonna do my best to stay safe, though, and I really appreciate your well wishes!

    • I will definitely keep your grandson in my thoughts and prayers, Gwen. That’s the area where Nicole is predicted to come ashore, but the trajectory can change by the hour. (As well as the strength). And what with clean up and rebuilding still going on from Ian, this is NOT something I want to see hit Florida. Thanks for the hugs and prayers, and I will update here when I know more. (If we don’t lose power.)

    • Thanks, Trish! We’ll take ’em all!! We are NOT ready to deal with another storm like Ian, with much of the state still trying to clean up and rebuild. Nicole really needs to make a sharp right turn into the Atlantic and leave us all alone. I’ll update here when I know more, and I appreciate your taking the time to wish us well. Hope you’re taking good care of yourself, too!

    • Ooooh, I like how you think, Nancy: fizzle instead of sizzle. YES! That’s exactly what I’m hoping happens before it makes landfall anywhere! And thanks for sending us all strength and fortitude. Anyone in the path of a hurricane certainly needs both! It’s time for this year’s storms to GO AWAY!!

    • Man, I’m hoping the same thing, Teri! This state does not need another storm, especially coming less than 6 weeks after the monster that was Ian. We’re doing all we can to stay safe, including taking down our patio canopy, putting all potted plants inside the screened porch (so they don’t become lethal flying weapons), making sure we have several days worth of food on hand and enough gas for the generator to run a few days, if needed. You know. All that FUN kinda stuff! (Which I hope turns out to be totally unnecessary, when the storm changes directions. Fingers crossed!)

    • Workin’ on it, Denise. Just brought in a ton of potted plants so they won’t become flying lethal weapons when the wind picks up. It’s already raining like crazy, so we’re inside taking a break. It looks like we will get a direct hit. The only question is how hard. *sigh* Thanks for the well wishes!!

    • Thanks, Jackie! Tonight will tell the tale. Our county was just put on voluntary evac orders for those in flood-prone areas, those living in mobile homes, or those with special needs. We don’t fall into those categories, so we’re staying put and hoping for the best. Tonight will tell the tale for us, somewhere around 2:00am, probably. The storm is already causing major damage along the coast, with at least one hotel looking like it might get washed away. Waves 27′ high have been recorded already, and it isn’t even HERE yet. We will likely at least lose power (thank goodness for the generator) but I will post an update as soon as possible.

    • I’m about ready for this hurricane season to be OVER!! 90mph gusts are nothing to sneeze at, Sally, and I hope your weather improves drastically, too.

Tonight will tell the tale for us, as we expect Nicole to be full-out slamming us by about 2:00am. But the winds and rains are already picking up, and will be here long before then. Plus, the storm surges along the beach have already begun. The images are shocking for this far ahead of the actual storm.

Will update you on the other side, hopefully with news that Nicole slowed down once coming ashore, and never became a hurricane. (Tropical storms are bad enough.)
