#SoFarSoGood – #FingersCrossed –

Welp … I’m back online already, but I’ve still got my fingers crossed.  We have been having major wi-fi issues for a few months now, resulting in excess fees (like triple the norm) for using cellular minutes, etc, in parts of the house where the signal wasn’t working. After some research, I realized that the technician who installed our system put the wi-fi transmitter  it in the worst possible place: down near the floor, in a corner, and against an outside wall. No wonder the signal didn’t reach as far as it should!

We decided that we would try relocating the transmitter to a better spot before spending money on an extender, but I confess I was terrified that my old computer (which is already signaling it’s  not long for this world) would never boot up again after we messed around with this. (Yes, I’m a devout coward where electronics are concerned. Give me snakes, any day!)

It was a hot, slow process, down on the floor, unhooking things and moving things, and rehooking them up again … BUT, everything came back on. There were a few hiccups and some red lights flashing, but in the end, we seem to have gotten it all running again, and so far, I have internet and wi-fi once more. And best of all, the signal is actually reaching more more than just one room away! This fix may not last forever, but as I said, my computer is likely to need replacing before long, anyway, so we’ve at least bought some time before we’ll have to hook everything up to a new one.

In the meantime, I’m back, though I’ll still be swamped with other things this weekend. But at least I can stop now and then and check in to see what’s going on. Still crossing my fingers, though. You know … just to be safe an’ all!

Have a great afternoon, everyone!

  1. Oh, i am feeling so sorry for your wi-fi issues, Marcia! As in the meanwhile all things are sending waves, this will become a horrible future. Maybe in a few years you try to open a new document in Word, but the fridge is interpreting the waves and orders a big pack eggs. Lol Here i am using a simultaneous way, and have a backup with cables. Happy Easter, Marcia! Fingers crossed! xx Michael

    • It’s a crazy world we live in these days for sure, Michael. On a LOT of fronts! And my fridge can order big packs of eggs any time it wants. They probably my favorite food, and one I can’t get through a day without. However, I agree it’s better when I’M the one ordering them, rather than errant “waves.” 😀 😀 😀

    • I agree. Yay! But I have to admit, I’m getting too old to be crawling around on the ceramic tile floor. Every joint in my body now throbs! Having said that, it’s a small price to pay to get my computer running again and wi-fi working better. I tend to go into a blind panic without the internet! Urk!! 😀 ❤

    • Yep, and yet I can’t live without one! My whole life seems to center on mine. It’s my work, my fun, my social life, and my connection with my children and grandchildren. Not to mention my access to KINDLE!! When it goes down, I have no clue what to do with myself. I mean, I have plenty (TONS) of other stuff to do, but being totally “disconnected” for a whole day is blinkin’ awful! Ack!! 😀 ❤

    • Exactly! WooHooing all over the place around here. Now, I don’t have to worry that every phone call I answer from my bedroom is going to cost me another $15 on my phone bill!! Those “cellular minutes” are bloody damn expensive!! Hurray for Wi-Fi that reaches where you need it to reach! (I keep double checking every few minutes to be sure it’s still working!) 😀 😀 😀

    • Thanks, John. We lost internet connection for a few minutes, but that was a couple of hours ago, and it came back pretty quickly. (And that can happen now and then, anyway.) I think we’re going to be okay, at least for a while yet. 😀

        • That was our plan today before we decided to try moving it, first. But now we are currently getting wi-fi throughout the house, just from relocating the transmitter to a higher shelf with nothing blocking it. I can’t believe how much difference it made. So glad I looked up info on locating them.

The biggest problem before today was that the signal did not reach our bedroom at all. I go to bed early and read for a couple of hours, so any texts or emails I’d get were racking up lots of cellular minutes. Tonight, I’m getting a full signal back there (a first!) and can even watch short videos, so we might be okay, at least until we’re ready for a major upgrade.

Oh, and I figured out why I lost the signal for a few minutes. I accidentally knocked a cord loose, DOH! When Spectrum is doing something in the area, we sometimes lose internet for a short period, but that doesn’t have anything to do with our set up, of course. (And I’m blathering now, but it’s because I’m so excited to be able to get wi-fi in THE WHOLE HOUSE! Woooohoooooo!! Just hope it’s still like this in the morning! 😀 )
