Book Review Tuesday: That Darkest Place by @MarciaMeara #bookishtuesday

It’s a great day, indeed, when you wake up to Mae Clair sharing a 5-star review of one of your books! I hope you’ll read what she has to say about my 3rd Riverbend book, That Darkest Place. Because of circumstances beyond my control, I didn’t get any marketing done on this one, and a review like this really does my heart good. I hope you’ll share it far and wide, thanks. And my heartfelt thanks to Mae, too! This made my day, my week, and probably the rest of my month, as well! 😀

From the Pen of Mae Clair

Welcome to Book Review Tuesday. Today, I’m thrilled to share another five star read. I’d like to clarify that I never publicly review a book unless I’m able to provide a minimum of three stars—which I consider an average read. That’s why you mostly see four and five star reviews on my blog with the occasional three star. Today’s book definitely earns five sparkly stars.

The third book of the Riverbend series focuses primarily on Painter brothers, Jackson and Forrest, though youngest brother Hunter, is still a strong presence in his unique and quiet way. I fell in love with his character in book two.

At the end of Finding Hunter, Jackson was behaving horribly—lashing out at those around him, physically and verbally abusive. He ended up in a car accident believed to be the result of drunk driving. In That Darkest Place

    • Thanks, Jacqui. Mae has reviewed all of my books now, I think, and always given them high ratings, but because I know this one has been overlooked (shows what a lack of marketing can cause), I’m especially thrilled to receive this one. Also, I love that Mae zeroes in on my favorite character of all my books, Hunter Painter, and his relationship with both of his brothers. I dearly love books about those unbreakable bonds between brothers, and to have her specifically mention it makes me extremely happy! 🙂 Hope you’ll check out the series when you have a chance, and that you’ll enjoy them. (The Painter brothers are introduced in Swamp Ghosts, but they demanded their own stories be told, hence Finding Hunter, and That Darkest Place).

      • Yep, I have read and reviewed all of your books, I’m a fan girl! I loved every one of them. It’s so hard to pick a favorite, but you really set the bar high with Hunter Painter. And now I’m besotted with Forrest and Jackson, too. It’s isn’t just their individual stories but the way they relate together as family and brothers. As I said in my review—five sparkly stars!

    • That’s so lovely of you to say, Mary, and I can’t tell you how glad I am you feel that way. Well, technically, I guess I CAN tell you, since I just did, but I’m sure you get my point. 😀 I love that you’ve enjoyed this series, and as soon as I get Rabbit’s newest tale wrapped up, I’ll be heading back to Riverbend. (Well, I MIGHT take a short side trip to see what Jake & Dodger are up to with their roles as Emissaries.) But you can bet Riverbend’s newest tale will be forthcoming soon, barring any more delays beyond my control.

Thanks for taking the time to drop by and comment! (And btw, Secret Dumfries is becoming my secret vice! I dream of seeing those places for myself someday! 🙂

        • Everybody loves a new Rabbit story, I think. He has a way with readers. And truly, he’s so much fun to write. I never know what he’s going to say until he whispers it in my ear. 😀

BTW, I just got a notice from Amazon that they’ve cancelled my order for Dumfries Through Time, saying it’s currently unvailable. 😦 Hopefully, I can try again in the future. Meanwhile, learning those Dumfries secrets is great fun. Someday …….. 😀 😀 😀

          • Oh, sorry to hear your order has been cancelled. It was the first one I did and is mainly picture-led with short captions so maybe it has run its course. It’s still available in the UK but perhaps the publisher isn’t reprinting. The proofs for A-Z have arrived for checking.

            • I’ll be waiting on that one, and we’ll see what happens on Amazon for the other. It’s still listed on the site, so perhaps it will become available again. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the one I have and looking forward to your newest. 🙂

    • Lovely, Olga, and thanks! I’m so happy Mae read these back to back, and enjoyed them both. Her reviews have really given me a boost!! 🙂 Hope you’ll enjoy them, too, when they make it to the top of the list. 🙂
