I had actually meant my earlier post to be more about how Christmas inspires me all year, than about my own decorations. (With the exception of Bob & Boberta, which I thought might garner a smile or two.) But for those who were confused, I figured I’d share a  couple photos of actual decorations here.  NOT many. It would be overkill, for sure. But just one or two to give you a wee little hint.

Remember that Santa Collection I mentioned? Well, here’s the Big Daddy of them all, six feet of Jolly Old Elf, pointing with pride at my Santa-covered library tree.

And there you have a TINY teaser for what Christmas looks like at the house of a
bona-fide Christmas fanatic.  Not too many photos, but probably as many as a
normal person can stand! Ho, ho, ho.

  1. I love the face ornament. How gorgeous! And all those old world Santas…they are my favorite kind!

    I have a blue and silver tree too…and a bronze and gold one. This year, my new cat, Raven, decided the blue and silver tree would make a good nesting spot and that every ornament was really just a play toy. For some reason she has left the (big) bronze and gold tree alone. The blue and silver one has not survived the season.

    Your Christmas spirit is infectious, Marcia! 🙂

    • Thanks, Mae. That was my aim. Christmas Spirit R Us! 🙂 I’ve given away quite a few of my Old World Santas, many of which I painted myself, in the last couple of years. Letting my children pick a couple each year to add to their family collections. The face ornament is one of my own designs, painted on wood, and I’ll probably hold on to that one a long while, yet. It’s one of my personal favorites.

      Sorry to hear your kitty was so deadly to your blue tree. That would make me crazy. Mostly, I just have to leave the tree skirts off until the last minute, or they’ll be covered with cat hair. Or worse. 😦 Glad your bronze and gold tree has survived unscathed. So far. 😉 Christmas IS still a ways off, after all. Good luck!

    • Thanks, Mary. Maybe a few more in another week or so. I’m having trouble getting a good photo of the blue tree, since there’s a big window behind it, and the lighting is screwy. I’ll keep trying. Tis the season. 🙂

    • It normally takes me ten days to two weeks to put out everything I have, though I did it a bit faster this year. I can pack it all away in two days, though. I have a system worked out. 😀 Oooh, I’d like to see your dragon collection. I love dragons, though I don’t have any. I do have a few gargoyles, which I also love.

      My other collections are mostly all small ones, except, of course, for books. I have a shelf full of dachshund figurines, some cats, and my gargoyles. I do have a fairly substantial Wizard of Oz collection, though I’ve started giving that away, too. Nowhere to set it up, any more.

      You know how rooted in reality I am when my two favorite men in the world are the Wizard of Oz and Santa Claus. 😀

      • Lol, yes, that explains a lot… 😉
        My dragon collection was once vast (around 600 pieces of all sizes) but I’ve been gradually wittling it down over the last few years as I no longer have space to display them all. It’s probably less than half the original size now, but the ones that remain are those I can’t bear to part with, so they are the really special ones.
        Now I just need to build a new room onto the house so I can get them all out of their packing boxes, instead of just having a small number out at one time. That’s my plan.

        • And a good plan it is, too. That’s how I am with what’s left of my WOZ collection, too. Way too many pieces packed away. I used to have an Over the Rainbow guest room, with everything out, but things went a different direction in this house. Now I’m trying to decide what to do with it all. I don’t have any trouble giving away my Christmas Santas now and then. Family members all like them, especially my handpainted ones. But not all of them are quite so interested in the Wizard of Oz, I’m afraid. It’s a bit more “specialized,” as far as fanaticism goes, I guess. 😀 Good luck with your new dragon home. I’ll be it’s an amazing collection!

  5. I always feel a mixture of envy and relief (thinking of the cooking ) when I contemplate our friends across the Atlantic having Thanksgiving and Xmas to brighten up winter. Which is more important to you? … I like real holly and ivy included in my decorations.

    • I love both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but Thanksgiving runs a close second, I’m afraid. Though I love fixing Thanksgiving dinner, and having friends or family gathered, sharing the things each is thankful for that year, Christmas is what truly makes me happy. Maybe it’s because Santa Claus is so much jollier than Pilgrims, and I’m always happier when I’m laughing. 🙂

    • I figured you’d be a real Christmas fan, too, Linda. 🙂 And I like the thought of wrapping my house like an enormous present. I’ve done it for so many years, it’s just impossible to quit now. Not while I’m still able to handle it, anyway. 🙂 Merry Christmas, Linda!

    • Haha, guess what? I haven’t done any shopping this year, either. BUT, of late, I do most of mine online, because I don’t have time to spend wandering the malls. And we’re spending Christmas with my daughter in Charleston this year, which is going to be costly, as we have to board the dogs, etc, so our presents will mostly be for the grandkids. It’s gonna be fun, though. My son & his family are coming, too, so we’ll be with BOTH grandkids on Christmas morning. I can’t wait!! It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten to see little ones discover what Santa’s left. 🙂 (And this is just a small fraction of my Santas. I might share a few more next week, if I have time.)

Come on down! 😀 But be prepared to put up with four in-your-face cats, and two very spoiled, very loud dachshunds. 😀 It takes me 10 to 14 days to put it all up, but only about 2 to put it all away again. And I love every minute of it, and am sad to see it relegated to the attic for another year. (Well, the big Santa folds up flat and lies under my bed all year. 😀 😀 😀 )

    • And thanks for the compliment on my trees. I can fit an astonishing number of ornaments on them, for sure. Especially the multi-colored tree, as I’ve been collecting those ornaments all my adult life. I’ve only been collecting blue & silver ones for the last 12 years. And I’ve never met a Santa ornament I didn’t love. I’ve even managed to find one or two for the blue tree. 😀
