Author Inspiration and This Week’s Writing Links

As always, Staci Troilo’s “Author Inspiration and This Week’s Writing Links” post is AWESOME. Do yourself a favor–check it out! And then share far and wide so others can enjoy it, as well. Thanks, and thanks, Staci, for another great recap. (I really love the Gaiman quote, too. He’s a favorite of mine.)

Ciao, amici! The days are passing with dizzying speed. Makes me think of warp drives and worm holes (since I’m in sci-fi mode these days) but my series is decidedly grounded on our planet. Doesn’t mean I won’t take to the stars later, but as for now, no space operas. Just alien invasions.

There’s a reason sci-fi and fantasy get lumped together so often. They both require suspension of belief and extensive world-building. My love for this type of writing started back before I could even read. It started with fairytales. Today’s quote is another by Neil Gaiman (the guy seriously says a lot of profound stuff).

Fairy tales are more than true:
not because they tell us that dragons exist,
but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.

I’m having so much fun slaying my dragons. And I don’t just mean literary monsters. I think writers battle…

Sammi Cox, How D’Ya Do?

Meet blogger, writer and Weekend Writing Prompt host, Sammi Cox.

D. Avery @shiftnshake's avatarShiftnShake

IMG_2270.jpgI have enjoyed the vibe and the writing at sammiscribbles since discovering it about two years ago. Though I have only sporadically participated with the prompts put out by today’s interviewee, Sammi has prompted me to write some of my favorite pieces and to challenge myself as a writer of both prose and poetry. With her Weekly Writing Prompt Sammi presents not only a new word prompt, but a new word count, anywhere from ten to 150.

I am so glad that Sammi agreed to this interview. I hope you enjoy learning about Sammi as much as I did. There’s much to relate to. Feel free to continue the conversation in the comment section.

#ShareAReviewDay Tuesday – A Thousand Yesteryears by Mae Clair

This morning, we are very happy to welcome Mae Clair to our first returning #ShareAReviewDay post.  I know you are going to enjoy reading about her deliciously shivery book, A Thousand Yesteryears, which is currently on sale for a super bargain price. Check it out, and share the news! Thanks.

REVIEW:

A Thousand Yesteryears by Mae Clair
Book 1 of the Point Pleasant series (can be read as a standalone)

Press review provided by NY Times bestselling author, Kevin O’Brien

“A THOUSAND YESTERYEARS is masterful, bone-chilling fiction that begins with a real-life tragedy on December 15, 1967: the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.  46 people died.  Author Mae Clair has seamlessly woven fact, fiction and creepy urban folklore into one intense thriller. The gripping story focuses on two witnesses to the disaster—fifteen years later.  Both Eve Parrish and Caden Flynn lost loved ones in the catastrophe and still carry the emotional scars.  After a long absence, Eve returns to Point Pleasant to bury her recently-deceased aunt, face some old ghosts, and reunite with her one-time “impossible-crush,” Caden.  But when Eve begins to investigate her aunt’s death, she’s plunged into danger and a nightmare world where scary urban legends are very real.  Full of suspense, A THOUSAND YESTERYEARS will keep you guessing, gasping and turning the pages for more.” Continue reading

In Conversation With “D.Wallace Peach” from “MythsOfTheMirror🐉” #AuthorInterview

Lovely interview with one of my favorite writers, D. Wallace Peach. And I like that she chose Sunwielder as her favorite of her own books. It’s mine, too. If you haven’t read it, you really should. Check out the interview for yourself, and learn more about this very nice and talented author who, like me, started her writing career later in life. Then pass it along to all your favorite social media sites. Thank you, Himani and Diana, for a fun and interesting read. 🙂

Omigod! I am just so super excited to start with my Author Interview Series with one of my favourite Blogger (Myths of the Mirror) who is equally an awesome Fantasy writer. I personally like her more because she has helped me extract my (not-so-great, being humble☺) writing talent, hidden deep inside some dark corner of my heart❤ scared of coming out in front of the world😵

(Now the question in your mind would be) How she did that?🤔 Her monthly #writingprompts. If you haven’t participated yet, don’t forget to miss the next one.

I wanted to know more about her and then I thought the other Fantasy readers too, wanted that. So, here I am with this smashing Interview for you all to know more about none other than D.Wallace Peach.

First, Himani, I want to…

Good Friday Morning! Meet Denise Farley, host of Six Sentence Stories.

D. Avery @shiftnshake's avatarShiftnShake

IMG_2270.jpgHere we are, the third Friday of the month, time once again to meet a blogger who prompts others to write. Denise Farley is the current helmsman for the Six Sentence Story ship, a fun prompt that I have participated off and on with for about two years. It is my pleasure to present Denise here.

Denise, how d’ya do?

New Pen Name and New Cover

Just take a look at Staci Troilo’s upcoming sci-fi series starter! Wow! What a cover and blurb! I’ve already pre-ordered mine, and I’m sure many of you will want to do the same. Congratulations, Staci (or should I say D.L.? 🙂 Best of luck with this one. ❤

Staci Troilo's avatarStaci Troilo

Ciao, amici! Life’s been busy, and it just got CRAZY. My publisher moved the release date of my new book from October to May 7. May 7! That’s less than a month away! I’ve got so much pre-release work to do. Starting with a cover release. So… ta-da!

It’s it stunning? I’m so excited about it.

Let me back up a step. First, you’ll notice it does NOT say “Staci Troilo” on the cover. We’ve talked about this before, here and there or in passing. I’m writing under a pen name (D. L. Cross) for this series. We can talk more about that later, though.

Second, you’ll note an alien ship on the cover. Aliens, as in sci-fi. It’s not a genre people associate with the name Staci Troilo, which is one of the reasons I’m writing under a pen name. If you’re interested in science fiction and aliens, this…

Guest author: Charles E. Yallowitz ~ Using Vampires as Heroes…

Check out this entertaining and interesting post by Charles Yallowitz on Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo blog. A great read! (As always, don’t forget to share far and wide.) Thanks!

Sue Vincent's avatarSue Vincent's Daily Echo

Thank you to Sue Vincent for letting me be a guest on her blog and helping to promote my newest book, War of Nytefall: Rivalry.  This is the 3rd volume of my vampire fantasy action-adventure series . . . I really should cut down on those genre descriptors.  In my defense, vampire fantasy sounds more like erotica than sword & sorcery.  Maybe Fangs & Sorcery?  What?  Oh, I went off-topic.  Since my story shows the events of Windemere’s Vampire Civil War, all of my characters are vampires.  That means they’re standing in the role of heroes as well as villains, which can throw people off.  Even with the existence of Angel, Forever Night, Alucard in Castlevania, and other protagonist vampires, many people jump to the conclusion that they have to be evil and will turn villain.  So, what are some ways to prove that you are working with…

Author Inspiration and This Week’s Writing Links

I’m late sharing Staci’s wonderful Author Inspiration and This Week’s Links post, I know, but better late than never. (I made that up. No, really. I did. 😀 ) Seriously, do check out this fantastic post and explore the wonderful links Staci has included. You’ll be glad you did. (And of course, don’t forget to share.) THANKS, and thanks to Staci for sharing so much with us. 🙂

Ciao, amici. Well, I started this week with the best of intentions, then I was derailed almost immediately.

I’d like to thank the Arkansas DMV for mastering quantum physics. I didn’t think it would ever happen, but I stand corrected. If you want to know where time ceases to advance and experience the sixteenth circle of hell, I invite you to walk through their doors.

I got hit with a bunch of editing projects I wasn’t expecting, and I have a few more on my schedule down the road that I’m growing anxious about, so of course I wrote even faster than usual, cognizant of losing drafting time to these current and future projects.

If you believe that, I have some land in Florida I’d like to sell you.

For some reason, the words wouldn’t come this week. I’m on book two of a five-book series, and I just…

The 2019 Interview Series Featuring Marcia Meara

Guess who’s Don Massenzio’s guest today on his 2019 Interview Series? Yep, ME! 😀 I’m honored and excited to be featured, and I hope you’ll stop by to say hello. Don’t forget to help spread the word, too. thanks. And my heartfelt thanks to Don, as well, for inviting me to chat with his friends and followers. 🙂 ❤

625smallWhat comes first in your writing, the plot or the characters?

Characters. Every time. I think about someone that would probably have an interesting story to tell, like an eco-tour boat captain and a wildlife photographer. I know they’ll provide me with lots of background I’m familiar with, and I have a feel for who they are before I begin to build a mystery or drama around them.

In the case of my second Wake-Robin Ridge book, A Boy Named Rabbit, a little boy alone in the wilderness came into my mind as I was falling asleep one night. I could swear I heard Sarah Gray (from Book 1) tell me he needed for his story to be told, and by the time I woke up, I knew exactly who he was and why he was alone. I went straight to the computer and started writing down every word of…

I am thrilled to have Charli Mills of Carrot Ranch here and so pleased she made room in her busy schedule for this interview. I’m not sure how best to introduce someone you probably already know so I won’t. Here she is, Charli Mills:
