Better Late Than Never!
And someday, I’ll be caught up again!

Better Late Than Never!
And someday, I’ll be caught up again!

It was a dark and stormy night . . .

. . . at sea . . .

. . . on another planet .

There’s a reason “a dark and stormy night” is such a cliché, you know–there’s hardly a more dramatic setting imaginable–so I thought it would be fun to share some storm images with you today. I suspect there’s inspiration to be found amid these pictures, and I hope you enjoy looking through them. (But you might want to use a different opening line when you start your own dark and stormy tale . . . if you want to be taken seriously, that is.) Check ’em out and let your imagination soar.

If you happened to visit The Write Stuff Friday, you might have noticed there was NO guest blogger on the premises. 😦 Normally, I fill in with something if no one is scheduled to visit with us, but I was utterly swamped with editing and other deadlines, and let it slip by. Sorry! However, I’m hoping that situation is about to change.
If you are a writer or blogger who would like to be featured as a Friday guest, please contact me. We’ll choose a date, and if you haven’t done this before, I’ll tell you how to go about it. If you HAVE done this before, and would like to do it again, we’ll welcome you with open arms. In addition to letting people learn more about you, it’s a great opportunity to direct traffic to your blog, or to the Buy Links for your books. And if you have a new book coming out (and some of you DO), or are having a special promo, you can mention that at the bottom of your post, too.
So, how about it? I’m waiting . . . . . . . . . . .

Black Racer
Non-venomous, very helpful garden friend.
This one was between 18″ and 2′ in length, and loving the
warmth of our sun-baked bricks.
In honor of National Poetry Month, I’m sharing one of my favorites. Being a reptile lover at heart, this has always appealed to me. And since I spotted my first black racer of the year in my back yard yesterday, it seemed especially appropriate. Of course, I don’t feel the same way about snakes as Emily, saving my “zero at the bone” for hairy-legged spiders, but it’s still a lovely poem. Enjoy!
A narrow fellow in the grass
Occasionally rides;
You may have met him–did you not
His notice sudden is,
The grass divides as with a comb,
A spotted shaft is seen,
And then it closes at your feet,
And opens further on.
He likes a boggy acre,
A floor too cool for corn,
But when a boy and barefoot,
I more than once at noon
Have passed, I thought, a whip lash,
Unbraiding in the sun,
When stooping to secure it,
It wrinkled and was gone.
Several of nature’s people
I know, and they know me;
I feel for them a transport
Of cordiality.
But never met this fellow,
Attended or alone,
Without a tighter breathing,
And zero at the bone.

“Standing In The Rainbow”
Dancing with Wieners Star, Maksim Hotdogski
Alias Maks
Woohoo! I took one look at my dog this morning, and knew this would be the day! Even luckier than a rainbow on the floor is one on a chocolate and tan dachsie. (Look it up. It’s true, I tell you!) So, who am I to scoff in the face of a lucky dachshund, standing in a rainbow? Instead, I sat right down and plowed through the epilogue of my WIP, typing The End at about 3:00 this afternoon. Yep. It’s official! Harbinger is done!! (Okay, except for the editing part, but I still think I can get this out by the end of May. That’s my story, an’ I’m stickin’ to it!)
Happy sigh. After a brief bit of R&R, I’ll start #3 of the Riverbend series, but for now, I’m going to bask in the sense of accomplishment that writing my 5th novel in less than three years has given me. And believe me, it feels FANTASTIC! Will they ever be studying my books in Literature Classes across the country? Nope. Do I care? Not a whit. Because there ARE folks out there who are enjoying them, and that’s what I set out to accomplish. I’m living a dream come true, and couldn’t be happier. (Richer, maybe, but not happier.) 😀
Dreams happen, folks. Never give up!
I saved this a long time ago, and it still never fails to make me laugh!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled broadcasting with breaking news! Due to several factors, we have decided to reschedule the April 23 Self-Publishing Workshop at DeBary Hall. The new date will be October 8, from 1:00 until 4:00. The fall is a better time of year for this particular type of event, with fewer folks away on vacations and holiday travels. If you live in this area and want to learn a bit more about how to self-publish your books, be sure to mark your calendars for October 8, and join us for the discussion. Reminders will be forthcoming, as the new date approaches.
And now, we return you to the program in progress.
Oh, and Happy Tewe’s Day! 🙂
Makes you think, doesn’t it?

This is beautiful and filled with great information. Please check it out. You’ll be glad you did! 🙂
Designer Raphael Lysander has produced this beautiful Infographic on the health benefits of reading, first published on his excellent blog. The image features statistics on how reading can help with stress relief, mental skill development, and forming relationships:

Part of Triple Falls, Dupont State Forest, North Carolina
I’ve spend the entire day working on the last chapter of my Harbinger draft, so I’m just getting this post in under the wire. It will be short but sweet. Waterfalls. Glorious waterfalls. They make me feel close to all things spiritual, and connected to nature in ways that transcend mere beauty. So, in honor of the extraordinary way they make me feel, I’m sharing some photos of a few of my favorite ones. Enjoy!
People aren’t the only ones who love waterfalls.

The 400′ Hickory Nut Falls at Chimney Rock Park in North Carolina
My favorite waterfall in the world.

Another View of Hickory Nut Falls, with more water, less sunshine. 🙂

And that’s a wrap for today, folks. Have a great week!
