Today, I’d like everyone to help me welcome another wonderful #StoryEmpire member, author D. L. Finn. Denise is also a wonderfully supportive blogger, and I know you good folks will really enjoy her #TenThings list! Therefore, without further ado, I’ll turn the “floor” over to her!
Ten Things You May Not Know About Me
by D. L. Finn
Thank you for having me here today, Marcia. 😊 I love Ten Things You May Not Know, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!
- I write poetry in as many places as I can. Airplanes, on the beach, in the forest, and my favorite is when I am riding with my husband on the Harley. I have other places in mind that I will explore, like underwater or in a cave.
- Over the years, I’ve collected various things. They include books, record albums, teacups, teapots, and my first love, rocks, and crystals! I’m always looking for a heart-shaped rock to add to that collection. Now my family is trained for that and finds them for me.
- Although I’ve been writing since I was a teen, I finally put my work out there in 2015 when I tripped over my black kitty, Coco, on Friday the 13th and broke my foot. This amusing incident left me with enough time to pursue my passion. I consider black cats, and Friday the 13th is lucky for me.
- I find a lot of peace meditating in nature. I’m usually able to see nature’s energy, typically green or purple. I love to see the energy over water, like the ocean, where it glows.
- I’ve had an out-of-body experience as a teenager while in the hospital. I could see myself and was told I still had things to do, and I needed to go back. That voice was certainly right. I can still see that moment even today. It reminds me of how important we all are.
- I always thought it would be cool to be a bush pilot and live in Alaska. Although I ruled nothing out, I found my way into living in the forest but never got a pilot’s license. I got to fly in a water plane and stand on the outside while it was in the water on an Alaskan river. It electrified me to be in that moment, and also got to explore the Hawaiian skies in a helicopter. I still have more sky things to do, like a hot-air balloon or skydiving. I love that bird’s-eye view!
- Being born in the tiger year makes sense that I’m a cat person. Although I love all animals, I have a few other favorites, like dolphins, bears, and red-tailed hawks. They seem to find me when I need them, and I pay attention to their messages.
- I love the world within our world or what lives in the ocean. Being underwater is peaceful and beautiful to me. I have always wanted to scuba dive and almost took the class offered at our local college, but the great white shark scares me a lot. I’m less likely to swim off the Northern California coast thanks to the movie Jaws. Although that doesn’t stop me from snorkeling in Hawaii or still learning to scuba dive in the future in Lake Tahoe.
- Music has been a big part of my life. I’ve been to many concerts over the years and seen some amazing acts. My first experience included Heart and the Eagles at a “Day On The Green” in Oakland, CA, in the 70s. Over the years, I’ve seen Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, AC/DC, REM, B52s, Journey, Pink Floyd, Ozzie Osborn, Blondie, The Pretenders, U2, and I could keep going. The list is long.
- I adore all things Disneyland and have lost track of how many times I’ve been there. It’s where I spent my 50th birthday surrounded by family and Mickey. My first ride is always Pirates of the Caribbean or the Haunted House. Yo-ho, I am a kid at heart.
Blurb:
Newly married Rachael Battaglia finally had it all. The only detail that stained Rachael’s perfect wedding was a gift she received. It was the exact present that her late ex-husband had given her on their wedding day — a snow globe. That marriage was not what she had envisioned, and she endured years of his abuse and charm until one night she escaped with two kids and one on the way. Now Rachael was headed to Hawaii with an amazing man and her chance at happiness. Unbeknownst to Rachael, she had an Angel on her side, although this Angel might not be able to save Rachael and her family from the evil that surrounded them. This is a tale of love, past relationships, things unseen, and redemption. Will Rachael find her happy ending, or will this evil thing get its way?

Your love of nature absolutely shines through this Top Ten!
Standing on the float of a water plane sounds absolutely amazing.
AC/DC was the first band I ever saw – in 1988 with the original line up including Bon Scott.
Thank you for sharing!

I am very comfortable in nature 🙂 It was amazing standing on that water plane, so lucky I got to do that. We missed seeing the grizzlies feed on salmon by a couple of months. I saw the original AC/DC band members too in the early 80s.

I’m always happiest in nature.
It’s a privilege to see the original AC/DC. I like Brian Johnson’s voice, but Bon Scott had a much more soulful, gravelly depth.

I love how young-at-heart you are, Denise. Wonderful ten things! I’d be scared of the sharks too, lols 😂. It always amazes me whenever I read about you writing on the back of the Harley. Good luck on your new book, A Voice in the Silence. I’m looking forward to reading it ASAP. Hugs 💕🙂
Marcia, thanks for sharing Denise’s fun ten things today. Hugs 💕🙂

Thanks, Harmony 🙂 I always try to hang on to that youthful heart. I have a healthy fear/respect of the great white shark off of the California coast. I’m due to do some more writing on the Harley soon. I hope you enjoy meeting the animals in A Voice in the Silence. Happy reading xo hugs back

You obviously have poetry in your soul, Denise, and that comes through in your novels as well. I’m not surprised that you’re so attuned to nature you can see its natural energy. That Friday 13th experience made me chuckle but the out-of-body one must have had a profound impact upon you. I have no intention of skydiving but I do share your love of music – you have excellent taste!
Many thanks for another one in this brilliant series, Marcia! ❤

Thank you, Alex 🙂 Nature is so healing its hard not to want to be a part of it. Poetry definitely comes from the soul and heart. I’m lucky to tap into that when I can. You can’t make up stories like tripping over a black cat on Friday the 13th…lol You are right the out of body experience has shaped me in ways I’m still tapping into. We were sure lucky to grow up with great music!

Wonderful details about Denise. I’ve also experienced float planes and one rough landing on the ocean in one.

Thanks, Craig 🙂 I enjoyed my one experience on the water plane but don’t think I would have enjoyed that rough landing on the ocean.

Nice to meet you Denise. Great list! So you’re a year of the Tiger huh. I’m a Rabbit, and it’s traits make sense for me. I’m also a Taurus, an Earth sign, which makes sense for me enjoying being out in nature. You have a black cat? Nice. I had one, Shadow, who crossed the Rainbow bridge a few years ago. He was such a sweetie. When Friday the 13th would roll around and people would ask me if I was superstitious, I would tell them that if I was I wouldn’t have Shadow.

Nice to meet you too! My daughter is a rabbit/Taurus too. I know them well 🙂 Also a nature lover. I have two black kitties right now Luna and Coco. No, I’m not superstitious either, in fact I like Friday the 13th. Got engaged on Friday the 13th too. Sorry for your loss with Shadow, and black kitties do have the best personalities.

What a great Ten Things list, Denise! I can tell you from experience, that there is nothing like the feeling of floating above the Earth in a hot air balloon and I hope you get to do it soon! I love your adventurous spirit and your deep connection with nature and the Spirit realm. Thank you for sharing and thank you, Marcia, for hosting!

This is a great list, Denise! I love scuba diving. I haven’t been since I gave birth to my son, but I’m hoping he and I can take classes this year, so we can go diving in Hawaii next summer (he’s now 15). I’ve been in a hot air balloon and really enjoyed it. Just make sure to do it somewhere where the view will be worth seeing. I’ve been to Disney World too many times to count, but I’ve never been to Disneyland. Maybe next summer, we’ll stop in California on the way home from Hawaii and check it out. Congratulations on your new release, Denise! I’m so happy for you. Thanks for sharing her top ten things, Marcia! 🙂

Thanks, Yvette 🙂 I think that would be amazing to suba dive with your son! Good tip to pick the perfect place to balloon. I have a few ideas but haven’t figured that part out yet. My youngest daughter and her husband did it and loved the experience. Hawaii would be the perfect place to dive and I agree Disneyland is a nice place to stop on the way home! I’ve only been to Disney World twice, its so big and fun! I am fond of the original though:) I am excited that the book is finally released. Thanks for all the help along the way xo Happy travels!

I love this list of ten things about you, Denise! I can picture you writing poetry on a Harley! Riding brings you right into nature, with the wind in your face and the scents you pass through. If you ever have a chance, fly in a glider. There is nothing like it. Your out of body experience may have tuned your spirit to nature and the energy you see, and I, for one, am SO glad you were sent back! Congrats on your new release, and I LOVE your cover of This Second Chance, which I just ordered.

Thank you, Patty 🙂 One of these days I’ll have my daughter get a picture of me writing on the Harley. There is nothing like it you are right in the middle of life. A glider? That sounds like fun! Another thing to add to my to do list. I like to think I brought back a piece of the beyond when I came back. I’m glad I got that second chance here too. Thanks for all your all your insight and help with A Voice in the Silnce. I hope you enjoy This Second Chance xo hugs

I’m not surprised that Denise can see nature’s auras. She’s always struck me as someone who thrives in the natural world. And I know she loves the sea too. I can relate to her fear of sharks, but I think she would LOVE diving. Hawaii would be perfect. 🙂 And #5… how cool. No wonder she’s such a spiritual person. Great ten things, Denise and Marcia. Loved the post!

I do thrive in the natural world that is very true 🙂 I’m not afraid of all sharks, mainly the great white and a couple of others who think of us as dinner or at least another version of a seal. I know I would love diving and might have to try it out in Hawaii someday. #5 is an experience that has shaped everything I do. Thanks, Diana 🙂

A fascinating set 10 things, Denise! I knew some of these, having interviewed you on a couple of podcasts. You have great taste in music. Music is a huge part of my life, as well. I’ve seen many concerts (and still do, having just seen Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Monday night in Detroit). Most of my shows have been heavy metal bands (my music of choice, though I love all music). Thanks for sharing these insights.

Great to learn more about you, Denise! When you mentioned the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, it brought back memories. Hubby, sons, and I were stranded on that ride in Disney World for over an hour and had to be helped off the boat and then walk through the scenery to a hidden exit door. I still hear that song playing late at night sometimes, lol. Thanks for hosting, Marcia!
