Well, Amazing the Things You Learn Around Here!

After more than a week of trying my best to figure out how to be able to access everything on my own blog again, without having to sign in via a comment somewhere, I discovered that everything works fine with Chrome. GAH.

Now I know it’s slower and possibly clunkier, but I prefer Internet Explorer. It might even be because that’s what I learned on. So I’ve resisted all the calls to change to Chrome–even  though there are a couple of websites I like that won’t work without it–but now I’m going to have to use it to post and comment on my own blog. Like it or not, I guess I’d better get used to it. 

Chrome, huh? 😦

    • I know what you mean, Darnell–even if the “times” drag you kicking and screaming along the way! 😀 One thing I miss (which maybe I just haven’t found yet) is how to organize my favorites into folders by subject. Listing the single file in a column is NOT working for me. Too hard to find what I want. Maybe there’s a way to do it and I just haven’t found it yet?

    • It’s nice and lean, and it does let me have a pretty background, BUT where/how can I organize my favorites in folders by topic? I can’t find that anywhere, and accessing them in a long column just doesn’t work for me. Any ideas? Thanks! 🙂 ❤

    • It would have been nice if something had popped up to tell me why I couldn’t comment on my own blog, rather than letting me struggle for a week or more. Grrr. I don’t mind how Chrome works. It does seem to be faster. But I can’t find out how to organize my favorites into folders by topics. Any ideas? 🙂 ❤ Thanks, Jessica for your encouragement, Jessica! 😀 ❤

    • So far, I haven’t had any trouble using it with my pc, but I can’t set it up the way I like it. I don’t find any options for organizing my favorites, other than in a long (LONG!!!) column. Still hoping to sort that out, if I have to use it. It is the only browser a couple of my favorite places will let me use, so I’ve had it in my taskbar for a while. Now I guess it has to be the main one. 😦 The times, they are a-changin’! 😀

        • Newer, faster, better, supposedly. Guess they’ve never heard, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” 😀

          Then again, someone once said, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

          Will keep you posted on how it all works out. 🙂

            • I think it refers to the fact that there are so many constants which never change, no matter how many peripherals you alter. I found this reference for those who think it’s a pretty strange saying: “The more things change , the more they stay the same” means that many things remain consistent even as change happens. You move into a new fancy office and the computer server crashes all the time just as it always did.”

              That makes sense to me, anyway. And I’ve found it to be true over and over. I think there are probably several old (and new) expressions out there that mean the same thing, for instance: “No matter where you go, there you are.” and one of my favorites, “You can’t put lipstick on a hog.” Those are, of course, more about people still being who they are than surroundings, but the idea is the same. Change this, change that, but the computer still doesn’t work and you’re still you.

              And all of the above gives me an idea for a story. Oh, if only I had time to finish the one I’m already writing so I could start on this one immediately. I know a character just waiting for me to do this to him. 😀 😀 😀

  5. I do use chrome, but on my iPad, I find it messes up opening websites and giving likes, lol. That all works better on Safari. On my main computer, though, it’s Chrome. Sorry for your woes.

    • I wish something had popped up on WordPress to tell me the problem was all in my browser, but alas, I had to stumble upon it by accident. *sigh* Again, my main problem is trying to organize my favorites into folders, by topic, so I can actually find them when I want them. I don’t see a way to do that, yet. I’m going to hate having to switch back and forth between browsers all the time, but that might end up my only option. Thanks, Harmony! 🙂

  7. I’ve used Firefox for years. (Internet Explorer at work because some of the programs we use won’t work with other browsers.) I’ve never liked Chrome but recently had to download it to get a Book Brush to work. Firefox is still my default browser and I don’t plan on changing it any time soon. Always something isn’t it?

    • BookBrush is one of the reasons I downloaded it, too, but I find more and more sites that tell you up front you need either Chrome or Edge in order to view them properly. *sigh* I would be much happier if I could get organizing those favorites into folders to work on Chrome. I’m floundering without it, as the single, long column of links isn’t working for me at all. 😦 Thanks for the input, though, Joan. Eventually, I guess I’ll get used to it. I mean, I have to be able to comment on my OWN blog, after all. 🙂 ❤

        • Ha. Well, I’ve discovered yet another new problem. I use gmail, and I can comment on any post on YOUR blog, for instance, by clicking on the email notification. But not posts on MY blogs. If I access them via gmail, I have to sign in to comment. Every time. ARRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHH. I have an event luncheon to go to today, and don’t have time for this. Will have to try again when I get home. In the meantime, I’m going to go have fun with these lovely ladies at a local book club. They read Finding Hunter for the book of the month, and I’m looking forward to chatting with them about it. 🙂 You may be right about the conspiracy, though. 😀

    • Well, I sure like being able to access ALL of my own blog, at least, and Chrome is faster for sure. But I am frustrated that I can find no way to organize my Favorites, except in a long, LONG column. I have them in folders by topic on IE, and I truly miss that. I need to be able to find what I’m looking for in a hurry. Any ideas on that front? And thanks for the encouragement. I’ll get used to Chrome at some point, I suppose. Maybe. 😉 Good to know it is working well for a lot of you.

      • I keep all of my favourites in alphabetical order, with the ones I use the most appearing in the favourites bar across the top of my screen when I’m opening a new tab on Chrome. It suits me, but I know it wouldn’t suit everyone.
        I’m glad to hear it’s helped with accessing your blog, Marcia.

        • Thanks Hugh, and alphabetizing will help, but it won’t solve my desire to have all the marketing sites together, all the sites on writing, editing, photos, etc, grouped. Oh, wait. Maybe I could add a word at the beginning of the site or post name, like Photos: Site Name Here. That would at least group them together. Hmmm. Could work. Will let you know if it does. Thanks, again. (And I haven’t yet taken care of that little trick you sent me the other day, but I’m GOING to, hopefully tonight! You ROCK, Hugh!) 😀

    • Technology. It’s SO wonderful. Except when it ISN’T! 😀 I’m glad you’ve found one that works for you, but several of the sites I really like don’t seem to work well with anything but Chrome or Edge, usually Chrome. It’s ALWAYS something, isn’t it? I could get used to Chrome if I could organize all my favorites in folders by topic, the way I have them on IE. But not being able to do that is a HUGE negative for me. I’m not giving up yet, though. If nothing else, I’m persistent when it’s something I want to do badly enough. 🙂 Thanks for the input, Mary. I’m learning more and more about this. 😀 ❤

  11. Marcia, I used Chrome for years but out of a sudden, something happened a month ago. Something wrong with my blog. I signed out and signed in, but it doesn’t recognize me. My hubby deleted Chrome and reinstalled, then it’s even worse. When I made comments on other blogs, I had to sign in. I don’t have time to deal with it. I had Firefox installed. I now use Firefox to do my blog and visiting other blogs. But I like the search engine of Chrome, so I open both, one for searching and one for blogging. This is not what I want to do, but for now, I have many things coming up and can’t afford time to resolve the Chrome issue.

    • I’m not unhappy with the speed, etc, but I am really hating not being able to organize my Favorites into folders by category, like I can in IE. The long, endless column of links just doesn’t work for me. I guess I’m going to have to use both browswers, depending on what I want to do. Personally, I think they should be able to come up with one that does it all. 😀 Thanks for the encouragement, though. I’ll get used to this somehow. ❤

  14. I’ve used Firefox for years. Always hated IE, but had to use it for so long because heaven forbid Microsoft follow the standards every other browser used. And I do use it at work because it plays nicer with some of the sites I’ve had to use. Back in my IT days we HAD to use IE because some sites–accounting sites–only worked on IE (and an older version at that). I try to avoid Chrome like the plague; has to do with resisting Google’s penchance for remembering where I go and what I search on (as a mystery writer, that can get, well, weird). My main search engine is DuckDuckGo, which claims to do no tracking of what you search. And it aggregates results from other search engines. Just call me a rebel! 😀

    Chrome is working pretty well for me, except for trying to figure out how to organize my Favorites. But I think I’ve found the key to that. I just need to have a few minutes to do it. It’s definitely much faster than IE, by a LOT! I tried Firefox years ago, and didn’t like it, though I no longer remember why not. (I’m OOOLLLD, you know.) 😀

    For now, I’m using Chrome for everything except the things it won’t let me do. I’ve still got IE pinned to my taskbar, but over in the Hall of Shame corner, instead of right in front of me. 😀 It’s always something, isn’t it? I don’t mind change as much as I mind not being notified it was going to happen, and suddenly waking up one day with no idea why I couldn’t comment on my own blog. Gack. But all is well–for now. 😀
