REVIEW:

MegaReader
4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for an entertaining read
15 October 2018
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

The book begins with the mysterious murder of DI David Snow’s colleague, mild-mannered Detective Jim Harris, killed by a strange injury to the head. Snow is determined to find his friend’s killer, and grudgingly accepts the help of Jim’s replacement, the enigmatic Ruth Winton, who has her own reasons for wanting to work with Snow. Ruth seems efficient at problem-solving, but Snow dislikes ‘Ruthless Winton’ for reasons he cannot seem to put a finger on.

Meanwhile, other deaths are occurring that Snow realises might be connected to his friend’s murder. Snow must work fast to catch the killer (or killers) before they strike again.

This book kept me turning the pages to the end, and I was interested enough to find out who had killed Jim Harris. All the characters were nicely fleshed out too, and the tension built as I read on. There were some minor editing errors however, and so I cannot give it a full 5 stars, but am happy to give the book 4.5 stars for an entertaining read.

BLURB:

DI DAVID SNOW HAS ANOTHER KILLER TO CATCH, a killer a mysterious as the crimes he commits.

Betrayal and lies come to the surface as Snow struggles to find the truth, but is he looking in all the wrong places?

Can Snow outwit the killer, or will the truth cost him his life?

Since we decided to publish our books ourselves, most of my other interests have had to take a back seat. I am an avid Bonsai collector and my tiny trees demand a lot of my attention in the growing season, or they will die. (it is just like having children)

I prefer to be busy, although I did think that now I am over 70¬† I might be able to relax a bit more, but I don’t think I can for I am far too nosey. I¬†love exploring all the wonderful writing possibilities and trying something new. I make all these plans in my head, knowing I will probably forget most of them, but I can’t help it.

For someone who loathes computers with a passion, and I suspect this is mutual, I have managed to master the beast to some extent, but there is still so much I don’t know. As long as there is life in this old body, I will keep trying, and you never know, our books might just make the bestseller list one day!

It won’t be for the lack of trying, believe me!

REVIEW:

Janet Gogerty
4.0 out of 5 starsIn the mind of a killer.
21 September 2018

I hadn’t read the previous novel about Kate, so knew nothing about her, but Kate knows nothing about herself either when she wakes up. This is a thriller with no heroes, the Snowman is desperate to help her and it seems at last he can, but it is not to be. If this was a television thriller the Snowman would save the day, but the story becomes more complex. We follow the killer’s thoughts as well as the other main characters, an advantage of books over screens. The reader will never sympathise, but we might comprehend what’s going on in Jack’s mind. Michael is another character who we think might save the day, but he is a mix of flaws and must face up to the grief he has caused the woman he loved and the other woman who loves him. This is not a novel for the faint hearted; what starts as a mystery of unconnected murders is also the story of those unfotunate enough to be in the path of a killer or know his intended victim. We know from the news that bizarre killings can occur when a murderer becomes obsessed and this murderer is obsessed with Kate.

BLURB:

Kate wakes up in hospital, unable to speak or move.

Her brain has shut down, refusing to acknowledge the horror of what happened to her.

With the help of Detective Snow, Kate will gradually put her life back together, only to discover her nightmare is far from being over.

A nightmare that must become worse before it can get better.

Haunted by his own demons, will the Snowman manage to catch the twisted killer before he gets to Kate?

Evil lurks in this story as people die, but amidst the tears and heartache, a lost love struggles to survive…

Since we decided to publish our books ourselves, most of my other interests have had to take a back seat, and as I am not half as clever as I want to be, they may well have to leave the country for a while. Well, some of them can but not all. I have a Bonsai collection that demands my attention in the growing season, or they will die, so no ignoring them! (It is a bit like having children…)

I always prefer to be busy, although I did think that now I am 74, I might be able to relax a bit more. I don’t think that will happen, far too much going on and I’m too nosey. I have to be doing or looking or trying something new. I make plans in my head, knowing that I am probably wasting my time, but I just can’t help it.

For someone who loathes computers, I think I have learnt an awful lot. Not that much really, when you consider how much I still don’t know. But as long as there is life in this old body, I will keep on trying, and you never know, our books might just be a little famous one day!
It won’t be for the lack of trying, believe me!

#ShareAReviewDay – Nine Lives by Jaye Marie

This afternoon, it is my great pleasure to welcome Jaye Marie to The Write Stuff to share a review of her novel, Nine Lives. As always, I know you’ll enjoy reading this one and will pass it along on your favorite social media sites. Thanks so much!

REVIEW:
4.0 out of 5 stars An addictive and rollercoaster of a read
4 March 2015
Verified Purchase

If you like the thriller genre that keeps up the momentum then this would be a good read for you. The pace never falters, building up the plot and characters with timely intervention. The author cleverly keeps the story centred around the main character, with the other players coming into the story and yet there are no plot holes or false timings.

Not once did I get bored reading it or find the story faltering at all – definitely one of those where ‘you need to know what happens next’ but I think the author’s gift when writing this is to keep the protagonist centre whilst keeping the reader constantly hooked. The antagonist is typically a nasty character, one whom the reader takes an instant dislike to and the edge he adds to the story is almost palpable.

Other characters are kept to a minimum but play pivotal roles in the story; the good thing here is you never know quite how they will turn out. Will your fears be unfounded? Or did you correctly guess the next step? The ending is not what you would expect (another good talent to have when writing) but you’ll have to read the book!

BLURB:

Death has been visiting Kate all of her life, leading her to imagine she has nine lives, like a cat.

With nothing to live for, no family, just a brother she hates, she waits for death to take her away when her lives run out.

Death continues to speak to her, teasing her, yet will not come for her. When people around her begin to die at the hands of a serial killer, she hopes to be next.

Has she finally run out of lives? Will she find a reason to live after all, before it is too late?
