Sometimes, it’s the staggeringly beautiful view from a North Carolina
mountaintop that inspires me . . .

. . . and sometimes, it’s a trip to my past, via a still-standing old-fashioned Florida Cracker style farmhouse. This one was pretty much on target for how I imagined the Painter house looking. I had the photo on my inspiration board the whole time I was working on
Finding Hunter.

Sometimes my inspiration comes from the nearly overwhelming beauty of an Appalachian Spring. (Great name for a symphony, Mr. Copland!)

And sometimes it comes from the close observation of the plants and wildlife of the
St. Johns River, including basking alligators, and turtles like this one, which knows when the alligator’s hungry, and when it’s not. DSCN1991

Another week gone by, another chance to share photos from my Inspiration Board. In addition to Florida rivers and wildlife, my Inspiration Board is filled with photos of the mountains of North Carolina, not only because my Wake-Robin Ridge series is set there, but because it is truly my favorite place on earth. Who could not be inspired by scenery like this? Rhododendrons in bloom, rolling hills in the distance, and light streaming down from the heavens above. *Happy Sigh* Hope it inspires you, as well.

Sunday seems a good day to share things that inspire me, particularly when I write, so I’m hereby declaring it #InspirationBoardSunday on #TheWriteStuff. In the weeks ahead, expect to see some beautiful photos of things I find especially inspiring. (And no, they won’t all be of Chris Hemsworth as either #GunnarWolfe OR #Thor. I promise. No, really . . . I mean it. They won’t . . . hardly ever. )

The truth is, beauty surrounds us, even in times when you think the world has gone mad. I figure it never hurts to remind ourselves of that. Here in central Florida, a land known for the element of make-believe, there are still vast areas of mysterious and incredibly lovely natural habitat, where birds and wildlife still hold sway. When all else fails, I look to them for inspiration, and they haven’t let me down, yet. Hope you’ll enjoy my #InspirationBoardSunday feature, and the places it might take your mind.
