Hurricane Passed Us By!

Florida Says “Goodbye, Helene … and Good Riddance!!”

Thankfully, Mark and I in Sanford (and my son & family in Gainesville) got nothing from Hurricane Helene but some rain as it passed through our part of Florida on its way much farther north. We were incredibly lucky. Many folks along Helene’s route didn’t fare nearly as well, and so far, the loss of life totals 43! My heart goes out to everyone who has lost someone thanks to this storm, and to those whose homes have been damaged.  Praying those numbers do NOT continue to increase as the storm continues northward!

    • It was, indeed, Bill. We are very lucky to NOT be facing major damage to our home and piles of debris to clean up today. My heart goes out to those who didn’t fare as well as we did this time around.

  1. It is such a relief to know that you are safe. I kept an eye on the map and do feel for those who felt the full force of Helene, but my main concern was for you, Mark and the family. ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Thank you so much, Trish! When you go through one of these, it’s nice to know others are thinking of you and sending positive thoughts and/or prayers your way. MUCH appreciated, believe me! Some areas were hit far, far worse than where we are, so we are feeling extremely grateful today! ❤️😊

    • Thank you, Jeanne, and I join you with my thoughts and prayers also going out to those who didn’t fare as well as we did here in Sanford. I haven’t even taken a moment to check the news today to see how other areas are doing. (I needed a good, strong cuppa tea first.) But so far this morning, the sun is out and the sky is blue. YAY!!!!

    • I agree, Gwen. It’s simply awful! I’ve lived in Florida most of my life, and I’m STILL horrified and shocked every time a hurricane tears through the state and leaves behind such damage and mayhem! So sad, too, especially when there are lives lost as well. (The latest tally is 56 lives lost, in addition to the massive amounts of damage done. It’s just too sad. And we were very, very lucky to come through this safely and with no property damage.)

  3. Thank goodness you are safe! It’s hard to imagine the strength and power of the storms. We just keep an eyeball out for the occasional tornado, but hurricanes look much worse!

    • They can both be devastating, Sue, but the ONE good thing about hurricanes is you get advanced warning when one is on the way. Time to prepare, etc. Tornados … not so much so! Urk!! But I’d be very happy if they’d both stop visiting us! 😉😊
