#HappySt.Patrick’sDay – #Turning(Gasp!)80 – #Celebrating!

Here’s wishing every one of you a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day and a big ol’ pot of gold awaiting you! Okay, maybe only one of those wishes will come true, but it’s heartfelt. While I don’t live where I’m likely to see a great St. Patrick’s Day parade like I did years ago while visiting Pittsburgh, I still celebrate. Not only do I enjoy all the shamrocks and the wearin’ o’ the green … but …  IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!

I wouldn’t normally make such a big deal out of that last part, except that …gulp! … I’ll be 80 years old! Holy Moly! How did that happen??? Why, it seems like only yesterday I was a Sweet Young Thang, enjoying the carefree life of parties and dating and just having fun in general. Okay … I lied about the “seeming only yesterday” bit. It seems WAAAAY longer ago than that! But it’s still a mystery how I ended up here. A mystery I’m very grateful for, I might add. Sadly, my parents and my younger brother have all been gone a long time, yet I’m still here. Makes me wonder why, sometimes. Is there something special I’m still supposed to accomplish? Some reason I’m still here in relatively good shape? (For my ancient age, that is.)

I don’t know the answer to that question, but in the end, it doesn’t matter if I know the reason or not. What matters is that I’m blessed to still be around, doing the things I enjoy most, with the people I love. I think my best bet is to just accept that fact, be grateful for the gift of making it this far, and get on with enjoying every minute of life I still have in front of me. And just so you know, I count all of my internet friends as one of my biggest blessings. Love you ALL, and hope your St. Paddy’s Day will be as much fun as mine, even if you don’t have a green birthday cake FILLED with candles awaiting you!

    • Thanks so much, Darlene. And boy do I know how lucky I’ve been, even with the occasional setback or problem. Or as Elton John once said:
“Don’t you know that I’m still standin’ better than I ever did?
Lookin’ like a true survivor, feelin’ like a little kid!”

Hopefully, I’ll be able to say that again next year, when 81 rolls around! 😀 ❤

    • I don’t mind it being “just a number,” but I’m a bit concerned about how that number seems to get bigger and bigger every year. Eeeeep. 😀

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Cathy, and I hope you had a Happy St. Paddy’s Day, too! 😀 ❤

    • Oh, now I’m REALLY worried. Wonder what I would look like in another 80??? Urk! 😀

But I do appreciate your well wishes, Barb, and hope to see a few more birthdays, anyway.
      😀 ❤

  1. Happy Birthday Marcia. Several birthdays popped up on Facebook this morning, giving a few other friends’ ages away. Who can believe when friends in real life are heading towards the four score! I am the oldest in my immediate family, though my sister pointed out we still have Young George, the much younger cousin of my father and son of Great Uncle George!

    • I’m the only one left in my immediate family, Janet, so I feel pretty lucky, indeed. My YOUNGER brother had a stroke at 47 and was gone by 49, more than 28 years ago, and yet, I’m still here, so I know how blessed I’ve been. Thanks for the birthday wishes, and hope you enjoyed your St. Paddy’s Day! 😀 ❤

  2. Have a wonderful birthday, Marcia, and a happy St Patrick’s Day – hope you’ll be wearing the green! I’ll add that you’re far younger in spirit than many people I know who are still in their fifties. ❤ 😀 ❤

    • Thank you so much, Trish! Yep, I was wearing green, for sure, and I had a great day. I’m glad that you think I’m young in spirit, comparatively, though I wouldn’t mind having the same level of energy I had in my fifties. 😀

Hope you had a great St. Patrick’s Day, my friend, and thanks again for stopping by!

    • Ha! I know what you mean, Sharon. I thought of myself as still being youthful all through my 70s, since those numbers weren’t REALLY so high. HA! But you know what? Now that I’m 80, I’m looking back on them with even more conviction that they were “youthful years.” *snort!*

Thanks for the birthday & St. Patrick’s Day wishes! Hope you had a great one, too! 😀 ❤

    • Thank you so much, Joan. It really does feel like a milestone to me, for sure. I’ve been kinda in shock all day, I think, but I still had a fun birthday and St. Patrick’s Day, too. Hope you did, as well, and have been feeling better lately? Take care of yourself, please!

    • Thanks so much, Mae. I had a great day, both the birthday part and the St. Patrick’s Day part. Hope you enjoyed the latter, too!

And thanks for the wishes for many, many more. I plan to keep on keepin’ on for as long as I can. 😀 ❤

  3. Marcia, you have a wonderful attitude and a fun sense of humor that is not compatible with someone with an “aged” brain. Your true youthfulness shines through your blog posts. Happy Birthday and Happy St. Pat’s day, you young whipper snapper! 🙂

    • Awww, thanks so much for your kind words, Nancy! I really appreciate that. I’ve had a VERY full day and right this minute, I’m not at all sure I could even FAKE being a “young whippersnapper,” but I’ll give it my best. With any luck, I might even have the energy to respond to all these comments tomorrow, fingers crossed. But tonight, I’m ready to fall face down on my pillow. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks, Craig! I had more fun than any 80-year-old lady ought to expect. Had a wonderful 3-way Zoom chat with my kids & grandkids, too. What more could I ask for? And really, just being here, in reasonably good health for my age and able to enjoy my friends and family, is amazing! So, yep. It was definitely a wonderful birthday! 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Gwen!

Every year is a blessing, indeed! I know too many people who passed away far too early, including my own brother, so I’m grateful for each day, each week, each month, and each year. Both my mother and my grandmother lived to be 92, so I want to make it that far, at least. (Can’t have them outdoing me! 😀 ) But I’d REALLY like to hit triple digits one day. That would be fun … especially when it comes to blowing out the candles! 😀 ❤

    • Aw, you say the nicest things, Sue! And I’m darn glad you’re here, as well! I do love all my internet friends hugely, and you’ve each made an enormous difference in my life. Somehow, being part of the online community helps to keep me young, and I hope to stay a part of it all for years to come! Have a great day, and a super week ahead 😀 ❤
