Time for another #FirstLineFriday folks, and just to keep you on your toes, I’ve chosen something I suspect will be tricky, even though it isn’t a classic from decades gone by. Let’s see if you prove me wrong today.
PLEASE READ these simple rules, just to refresh yourself on how this should be done. Thanks.
- Be one of the first five people to email me before the game ends at 4:00pm, with the title and author of the correct book.
- Do not reply here on the blog. Email only: marciameara16@gmail.com
- Honor System applies. No Googling, please.
- Submissions end at 4:00 P.M. EST, or when I receive 5 correct answers, whichever comes first.
- Winners who live in the U.S. may request a free download of any one of my books for themselves, or for someone of their choice. OR, if they’ve read all of the offered books, they may request a free download of my next publication.
- Winners who live elsewhere may request a mobi or PDF file of the same books, since, sadly, Amazon won’t let me gift you from the site.
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Put on your thinking caps, because here is today’s opening line:
“Joost had two problems: the moon and his mustache.”
Remember, email answers only, please. Thanks! And now off I go to await your guesses.
Nope, no clue with this one, lols 🙂
Thanks for this Friday fun, Marica!

For once, I think I got it right in that this one is going to be tricky! BUT, I wanted to share it because it’s not only a cool opening line, but starts out one of my very favorite books, and it isn’t something from the distant past. 🙂 Hopefully someone will figure it out. 😀 Thanks for visiting, Harmony! 🙂 (And believe it or not, I could retire comfortably if I had a nickel for every time I’ve typed my name Marica. My fingers don’t always get it right, either, even though I’m pretty sure I know how to spell it. 😀 )

I’m as clueless as Harmony on this one. The name is so distinctive that if I’d read this book I’d remember it (I think). I’m guessing from the spelling of moustache that it’s not written by a British author but that’s as far as I can go! Good luck to everyone else.

It’s a wonderful book, Trish, and one of the reasons I’m sharing this very cool opening line is because I’m hoping some of you will decide to check it out. Stay tuned, and let’s see if anyone gets it right this morning. 😀 And thanks for visiting! 🙂

I have no idea, but I like the name Joost. It’s a cool name for a character.

It is, and it’s a cool way to start this book, too. I wanted to share it for that reason and because I’m hoping some of you guys will read it, too, because I love it so much. 🙂

No idea on this one. It gave me a chuckle, and the name is distinctive, so I’m sure I’d recognize the line if I’d read it before.

It’s a great opening line, isn’t it? And the good news is, the book gets better and better from there. I’m not surprised that it’s a tricky one, though, and so hoping that some of you will check it out. (Not that it hasn’t sold a kajillion copies, but just that I love it so much I want all my friends to read it, too.) 😀 Thanks for visiting this morning, Jeanne. Stay tuned! 🙂

This sounds so familiar, but I just can’t get it. Going to look it up – it may be a “duh” kind of moment.

Aw, I’m sorry it’s not coming to you, Teri. I suspect this might be one you’ve read. It feels like something you’d enjoy, and I KNOW how good it is. Let me know. 🙂

Yep – just looked it up and could kick myself. One of my favorite books ever!

SEE ABOVE. 😀 I just KNEW it would be something you’d like. I can’t say enough about this writer or these books, but I’ll save it for the Reveal Post later today. Honestly, the “lead” is one of my favorite characters EVER, in addition to the wonderfully written story.

I love it, too, Sue. Don’t know if this is a genre you typically read or not, but the books are excellent, and lines like this one are one of the reasons why. Thanks for visiting, and check back after 4:00 for the answer. 😀

Drat! It’s like I should know it, but I don’t. It sounds familiar but I’m drawing a blank. A stumper for sure.

I’m pretty sure you haven’t read this one, Mae, but I’ll say no more, just in case I give away too much. 😀 It’s a great opener, though, isn’t it? 😀 I mean, you really want to know what’s wrong with the moon and with his moustache, doncha? 😀

I had a feeling this would be a toughie, and I’m not sure it would be your go-to genre, either, John. But I was hoping someone would pick up on it. If nothing else, I hope a few more people will read it after they see the answer. NOT that this writer needs more readers, exactly, but because it’s such a great book! 🙂 I had a feeling Teri would have read it and am sorry the line went on walk-about when she saw it. It would have been fun to have a winner today. But maybe next time! Thanks for visiting. Answer coming up in a few minutes. 😀
