Or not. But I’ll bet you’ll love her brief scenes in Swamp Ghosts. She’s a pretty special gal!

“Why did it have to be snakes?”

Hahaha. Well, Indy…because I LIKE ‘EM! A lot! And besides, how could I write a book about “ghostie” type things in the swamps without ’em? Besides, she’s in a tank, in a reptile room. You’re safe. 😀

I am not the biggest fan of snakes, but she is lovely. I prefer my wyrms to have legs. 😀

She is one of the whitest albino rattlesnakes I’ve ever seen. Usually, they have enough pigment to show some pale yellow patterning, but this one is just so clean. And legs or no legs, as long as they are reptiles, I’m pretty happy. Wyrms, included. Legs AND wings are always better! 🙂

She’s spectacular! I LOVE snakes, although I’ve not met a rattlesnake; I prefer mine non-venomous.
I’ve kept a variety of snakes, including an albino corn snake (Snowy), who was white with yellow markings – very pretty. My biggest was an 8 foot Thai python (strangely enough, called Thai 😉 ) though she used to give visitors heart attacks if I forgot to mention that she was swimming in the bath when they visited the bathroom!

Yet another thing we have in common! 🙂 I love most wildlife and the usual assortment of domestic animals, but next to cats, snakes are my favorite. I find them utterly amazing, with astonishing adaptations to living a legless life. I think they’re beautiful, graceful, and endlessly interesting, My backyard is home to several black racers, and nothing makes me happier than to spot one when I’m out watering my garden.
I’ve never kept a snake as a pet. My first husband was terrified of them, and I have a house full of cats and dachshunds, who are “vermin” killers extraordinaire. I’d spend all my time trying to be sure none of them found a way into the snake cage! Seems like a less than happy idea. But I worked extensively with snakes when I was a docent at the zoo, taking out the ball python or the eastern indigo snake as I walked around introducing them to visitors. It was FUN. I don’t handle venomous ones, though. I’ll leave that to the pros. (And I like that you know they are venomous and not poisonous. 🙂 )
Naturally, when I wrote Swamp Ghosts, I had to have some snakes in evidence. Snowball…in the book… belongs to a herper who is fascinated with albino reptiles of all sorts. Say Hi for me when you get a chance to read about her. 😀

Yay! My mum used to know the head keeper of the reptile house at London Zoo, and when I was a child my favourite outing included being taken into the back of the house to handle snakes and lizards while the public looked through the glass and wondered what we were doing back there!

Oooh, that would have made me ecstatic!! The closest I’ve come to that is being able to pet baby snow leopards, which was very exciting. They are incredibly beautiful creatures. But overall, going to the zoo every weekend to work with the snakes was wonderful!
