Just a quick update on a more positive note than some I’ve had lately … today marked a MILESTONE in the Saga of the New Computer: I finally got my printer hooked up and working. There were several things impeding that process, not the least of which was that it wouldn’t accept the Wi-Fi password, but a call to a VERY nice young lady at Spectrum helped me figure that one out. And I have actually printed out THREE documents this afternoon, hence the happy dance above.
I’m still not out of the woods yet, as I try to find a graphics program that does more than the pathetic Paint that comes with Microsoft Office, yet doesn’t cost as much as many. I won’t be using it professionally any more, so I don’t want to lay out another huge chunk of change, but I DO need something whereby I can make headers and do some photo retouching. If any of you has a good suggestion, I’d be love to know. I’ve got a list I’m planning to check out tomorrow, but would be interested in hearing any success stories you might have. (I’d prefer something that resides on my own computer, rather than an online site.)
Thanks so much for all the kind and supportive comments on my previous posts. Haven’t been able to respond to all of them, but I read each and every one, and they ALL helped me keep my sanity! With any luck, a few more days will at least get me out of Crisis Mode here, and I can take my time with other apps and programs I might want.
Thanks again for being part of our wonderfully supportive writing and blogging community, and always being willing to offer a friendly word of understanding.
LOVE YOU GUYS!
Happy to hear things are slowly getting better! 🙂

Thanks, Yvette. I feel better tonight than I have in ten days or so. I have HOPE again! 😉

Yay, glad things are on the upswing. As for a graphics program…I’m pretty much clueless. I used Paint for my “The Hay Bale” cover, but I didn’t have to do any cut-n-paste or anything like that.

Thanks, Priscilla. And I’ve given Paint a go, and it just won’t do several of the things I want it to do, but I’m glad you were able to use it. I like to layer graphics, and use more than one image, but I’m NOT going to buy a full-on program like the Paint Shop Pro I had. (It’s was a less expensive version of PhotoShop, and when I was doing a lot of digital painting, I loved it. But it’s gone now. *sniff* ) But I’ll find something that will be easier to work with than Paint without costing as much as PSP did. (I hope.) 😊❤️

I don’t do a lot of graphic and photo editing but my brother often recommends Gimp, a free photo editor program (like Photoshop) that you can download. It has high recommendations and often tops lists of free editing programs.

Oooh, Gimp is on the list I’m going to explore tomorrow. Glad to know your brother finds it useful, Jeanne. Thanks so much for that! It might be just what I need. 😊❤️

Yay for you, Marcia! I’m so glad things are starting to work as they should. As for a graphics program, I only use Canva. Sending big hugs…💕 🤗 💕

Thanks so much, Gwen! I’m much less stressed tonight than I’ve been for more than a week. I took a quick look at Canva, but don’t think it will do some of the things I want. Mostly, though, I don’t want to have to work online. Just a preference of mine, that’s all. But I’ll find the perfect little program somewhere, I’m sure. And bit by bit, I’ll find substitutes for those I lost, though it doesn’t look like I’ll ever find a calendar as good as the one that no longer works. *sigh* Well, I suppose you can’t have everything, and this pc is SO much faster than the old one, so I’m going to focus on that, and be grateful I don’t have to buy a new printer yet. 😊❤️ Yay!

I’m happy for you, Marcia. You’ve jumped through many hoops. You can start a tutorial class soon. 😃

Hahaha. Thanks for being happy for me, Miriam, but I think I’ll skip the tutorial class part. When I’m finally done with this process, I’m not going to want to even THINK about this stuff for a LONG time. Maybe even another 15 years or so! 😂

It’s wise not to think about it. 😃

Thanks, Judy. I’m still not where I need to be, but more and more of the necessities are being set up, so I feel much better. Glad you enjoyed the little animation. I have a bunch of them I made when I was using an email program called Incredimail. You could stick your face in all sorts of fun animations, and I’m so glad I’d saved them to my desktop before Incredimail went away. They come in handy now and then. 😀

Oh, so glad you have the Internet part done. I was having major anxiety attacks when I was still cut off from the Immediate World like that! Good luck with the printer. I’ll explain about the password thingie when I have time to do another post, in case it helps you or anyone else at all. What a frustrating experience that was! Good luck with yours!! 😊❤️

Doing my happy dance 💃 with you, Marcia! Hope you get it all sorted soon. I use Affinity photo, but it’s a learning curve, and I bought it on a deal price. Sounds like Gimp might do it for you. Hugs 💕🙂

Thanks so much for dancing with me, Harmony, and for the recommendation, too. I’ll check it out, for sure. (No offense, Microsoft, but Paint stinks!!) I really need a graphics program that does the things I still like to do, and Paint isn’t it. *sigh* But I also need a desktop calendar that does more (AND BIGGER) than the one that comes with Office. Gah! What are they thinking??? Hugs back atcha, my friend!

Glad you’re making progress, Marcia! Sorry I can’t be of any help with the graphic program – that’s above my pay grade.

Thanks, Teri, and don’t worry. Somewhere, I can find a program that will do the things I still enjoy doing. I used to be quite good at graphics and digital painting with an electronic tablet. Will share some of my art one day, just for kicks. But I don’t make my living painting any more, so I don’t want to buy a big program like I had before the old pc died. But Paint is ridiculously limited, so I’ll keep looking for now. That, and my Efficient Calendar app are my two biggest problems, but I’m not giving up yet. Thanks for stopping by today! 😊❤️

I’m delighted to hear you’ve successfully managed to leap most of the hurdles! Here’s to the new, improved, faster system! 😀 ❤

Not quite “most,” yet, I’m afraid, but at least most of the really important ones. I can get online, blog, email, etc, and now I can even PRINT again. Those were the most critical. The next biggie is finding a graphics program that will do more than STOOPIT ol’ Paint! I have to have something that will do the kinds of graphics I still make. Once I have that, the other programs I’ve lost can be added in as I find something comparable. But thanks for the delight and the well wishes for soon being able to relax and enjoy this powerful new system. I’ll revel in that, my friend! 🤗💖🤗

Thanks, Jan, and me too! I still don’t know why my printer isn’t printing in color, even though it does when I run a print test. But I can live without that for a while yet. And I’m busily tracking down some graphics programs to experiment with, too. (Is it weird I keep patting the top of my computer and whispering, “Soooon, my Precious!” ??? ) 😂😂😂
