  1. We have several Pileated woodpeckers who torment us. They love, love creating holes in our home. So when I saw your Memo, I chucked but wished there was such a thing as woodpecker jail. 😁

    • I love pileated woodpeckers, Gwen, though I haven’t seen “ours” in a couple of years. The chances are good when they are drumming on your home, they’re announcing to the world that your yard is their territory. They’ll often hammer on metal, like gutters or flashing, because it’s so loud and makes them sound formidable. Any holes are likely an unintentional aftermath, in most cases, since the woodpeckers aren’t usually trying to nest in your house, or drill insects out of it. (Not that that helps if there’s damage caused.)

BTW, they are the ones whose call inspired Woody Woodpecker. 😀 (Just in case that makes you feel better about their bad habits.) 😀

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂 Have a great Moon’s Day! 🙂

      • My goodness, you’re the first one who’s explained why they do what they do. When I visited our local bird store, all they told me was “…but they are so beautiful.” Now you’ve softened my heart a little and made me empathic towards their madness. 😃

        • There’s a reason I like to give my local Wildlife Talks every month. If it lives in Florida, especially CENTRAL Florida, I’ve probably learned a bit about it over the years, and it’s always fun to share. I’m glad your heart has softened somewhat. 😉

These guys often hammer on the pieces of protective metal around utility poles and on electric meters that are enclosed in a metal “box.” Anything nice and loud that will tell other male woodpeckers to stay AWAY from their turf! Or trees, in this case. 😀 Understanding the “why” behind actions (human or otherwise) is often helpful, isn’t it? 😀 ❤

    • I love that picture, too, and it seemed appropriate on a post filled with animal pictures & cartoons. Glad you enjoyed it, Trish! Thanks for stopping by to let me know, and keep smiling, my friend! (It makes people wonder what you’re up to! 😀 )

    • Hehehehe. I liked that one a lot, too. 😀 Glad it gave you a smile, Mae. (The trick now is to refuse to let the rest of a typical Monday take it away again.) Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

    • Hahahahaha. Yes! I love that!! We have Florida panthers around here, though they are secretive and NOT common, but I could just imagine looking out my door and seeing one on the porch. Glad you enjoyed them, Jan. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
