Yeah, I think you’re in the minority on that one, at least among folks who’ve actually read it. I’m sure a lot of younger readers haven’t, but I also felt this would be one where I’d finally have some winners. (Woke up to four, already, so I might be ending this contest early.) I remember I liked it very much when I read it decades ago, but darn if I can remember many of the details, beyond the general premise. I read it during my Great Classics Binge year, when I was 12. I remember the general premise of the book and some character names, but details (like opening lines) are gone. I definitely need to re-read some of these great books. Sorry it didn’t come to you, John. Would have loved to gift you a book, and being a U.S. citizen, Amazon would actually have let me do so, rather than substituting a Mobi file. Try again in 2 weeks, though I confess, the pickings from my All Time Best Lines list are getting slim. There are still a couple of goodies, though. Thanks for giving it a try. 🙂
