The closer it gets, the more eager I am to get my hands on Peace Talks, the long-awaited 16th book in the fantastic and beloved Dresden Files series.  Many of you have let me know you’re as excited as I about the new book. Others are wondering what all the fuss is about, and thinking they might check out the series for themselves. With those folks in mind, I thought I’d take a few minutes to list all the novels in order, and share cover images with you.

BONUS: I’m also going to share all the anthologies I could find with Dresden short stories or novellas in them, as well. As you will see, there are several (and I may even have missed one or two). Each story is a fun addition to Harry’s world. (Teaser: Were you aware that Harry knows Bigfoot?)

This is from BackUp, which should actually be at the top of the list, since it was published first, but which I saved for last because I wanted to share this with you. Thomas is one of my favorite characters in the series, perhaps second only to Harry. Enjoy:

Let’s get something clear right up front.

I’m not Harry Dresden.

Harry’s a wizard. A genuine, honest-to-goodness wizard. He’s Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He’ll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences–and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being.

I’ll be damned if I know how.

But then, I’ll be damned regardless.

My name is Thomas Raith, and I’m a monster.

  1. Ooh, five weeks! We get our hardback copy out on July 16h … so that’s book 16 on the 16th, which also happens to be my birthday! Yay! Awesome present 🙂

Glad you enjoyed the posts, and the short stories are wonderful, fun additions to Harry’s world. I re-read the one in Urban Enemies last night, featuring Gentleman Johnny, and it was a corker! 🙂

    • It’s rather an amazing body of work, isn’t it? I should probably cut him some slack for the SIX year break between novels, but I’m on a roll with that one. Hard to stop myself. Especially since I was DYING for the next book the entire time. (Something happens in Skin Game that reallyreallyreally made me want to find out what was coming next, so perhaps I can be excused for my frustration.) At any rate, all will soon be forgiven when I get my hands on PeaceTalks though I’m not expecting a full resolution yet. Just hoping.

      And we should ALL have some of whatever Jim Butcher has. To be that prolific with such fun and well done tales is a testament to his genius.     • You’re welcome for the list, Jeanne. I thought it would be helpful for new readers, and also wanted to let folks know just how many anthologies Dresden stories appear in. I love that several of those books are nothing BUT Dresden stories, too.

      I’m indulging my passion for collecting print books with this series, too. I have two books signed by Butcher already (Brief Cases and Aeronaut’s Windlass–hoping he gets back to that series someday, too), but the best thing is, I’ve got a signed copy of Peace Talks on order from B&N and am eagerly waiting for them to offer signed copies of Battle Ground. Life is better with BOOKS! 😀

    • You are in for a great ride, Teri. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, Storm Front was written as part of a class assignment when Butcher was 21 (I think). It’s good. And I knew when I read it, I wanted to read more. And each book definitely gets stronger and better as his writing skills grow. Plus, Storm Front was written 20 years ago, and you can see how themes have changed over the years, too. Plus, he has done a good job (in my opinion) of letting his characters grow over time, too. I hope you end up loving it as much as I do, and I’m happy you’ve enjoyed these silly posts. 😀 Thanks for stopping by today! ❤

  6. Your Dresdenphiles post is a highlight of my Tuesdays. And now I’m thinking I need Peace Talks in hardcover, too. Thanks for getting me hooked on the series again. I should be ready to start Proven Guilty by the weekend if not before. Hopefully, before. Yes, yes, before! And now I have to get some of the shorts too. 🙂

    • Don’t forget you can get a SIGNED edition of Peace Talks on B&N (if they’re still in stock). I can’t wait for mine. It’ll be my 3rd book signed by Jim Butcher, and I love every one of them. I’m definitely going to order a signed copy of Battle Ground, too, as soon as it’s available. I’m such a goober. 😀 But it makes me happy.

      And my Peace Talks Countdown posts are pretty much the highlight of MY Tuesdays, too. So much fun! VERY happy you are reading these books now, Mae! And every time someone else tells me they’re starting the series, I’m delighted. Dresdenphiles, UNITE! 😀

  8. Fuego my Eggo! HA! Love it! And yes, something that happened in Skin Game definitely makes me want to know what happens next. Actually, a lot of things that happened in Skin Game make me want to know what happens next, not the least of which is Harry + Karrin. I hope! Maybe Jim will drag that thread out for another book or three. Damn!

    • With you all the way on that, Julie, except that I’d bump Harry & Murphy up to the #1 spot on my want to know what happens next list. GAH. I’ve been waiting TWENTY YEARS!! 😯 But lots of stuff was left up in the air at the end of that one, so I’m doubly happy that we get Peace Talks in July and Battle Ground in September. Progress!!

      And I almost fell off my chair when I found Fuego my Eggo! 😀 😀 😀

      So nice to see you all caught up on these, Julie, and to know you are as eager to get your hands on this as I am. Well, except for my totally over the top, OCD-ness about it all, of course. 😀 Before this book was announced, I had heard it rumored there were supposed to be 5 more, and possibly a trilogy after that. I have no idea how much longer he could drag this out, and I ain’t gettin’ any younger here, you know? But for now, I’m just going to focus on finding out what happens next!
