It’s BAAA-AAACK! #FirstLineFriday, our little quiz designed to help us appreciate some of the best opening lines in literary history, has returned. For today at least. (I’m going to do my best to catch up on things here at The Write Stuff, but I’m still not at 100%, so bear with me, if you would, thanks). From the classics of long ago to the latest best-sellers, everything is fair game on #FirstLineFriday, and I have an oldie but a goodie for you today.
As always, the rules are simple:

It’s definitely well-known book, Trish, but I’m guessing this opening line will be hard to pinpoint. I read the book AND watched the movie, but would not have recognized it, either. Still–it has a definite “air” about it that grabs the attention. 😀 Thanks for checking it out! 🙂 ❤

I was afraid it was the opening to a book that TERRIFIED me, and thus I’ve never touched the book again. I Google-checked, yep.

Aw, you should have just made a guess, Priscilla. No penalty for guessing wrong, and I don’t even care how many times you guess, either, as long as you don’t Google it. See. You’d have won!! But shhh. Don’t tell anybody else what you discovered, just in case they figure it out on their own. 😀 Next time, don’t be afraid to guess. I haven’t ever posted wrong guesses and made fun of them. Yet. 😀 😀 😀

Sadly, no one else did, either, Bette! As hugely popular as both this book and the film version were, still that opening line didn’t ring a bell for anyone but Priscilla. (I wish she’d taken a guess. She’d have won!) But it was a hard one, for sure. 🙂
