Welcome once again to #FirstLineFriday, a little quiz designed to help us appreciate some of the best opening lines in literary history. From the classics of long ago to the latest best-sellers, everything is fair game.
As always, the rules are simple:
- Be one of the first five people to email me before the game ends at 4:00pm, with the title and authorof the correct book.
- Do not reply here on the blog.Email only: marciameara16@gmail.com
- Honor System applies. No Googling, please.
- Submissions end at 4:00 P.M. EST, or when I receive 5 correct answers, whichever comes first.
- Winners who live in the U.S.may request a free download of any one of my books for themselves, or for someone of their choice. OR, if they’ve read all of the offered books, they may request a free download of my next publication.
- Winners who live elsewhere may request a PDF file of the same books, since, sadly, Amazon won’t let me gift you from the site.
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! (Hopefully, this one will be a bit easier for many of you.) Here’s today’s opening line:
“This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it.”
Remember, email answers only, please. Thanks! And now off I go to await your guesses.
Can’t even begin with this one – but it’s an amazing opening hook! 😀

As always, I guessed wrong. I’ve hesitated to post this one, thinking everybody would know it at once. I’m glad I finally gave it a try, but sorry that so far, no one has recognized it. 🙂 Sorry it didn’t ring a bell, Trish, but thanks for playing, anyway. 🙂 ❤ And I agree about the opening hook aspect. It’s great!

Whoa, that doesn’t ring a bell at all. I’m sure I haven’t read this one, but good luck to all those who are sending in guesses!

Sorry it didn’t ring a bell, Priscilla. And though you may not have read it, I have a feeling the title will very familiar to you. Hope someone recognizes it before the game is over, though. Stay tuned! 🙂 ❤

For some reason I want to say it sounds kind of familiar, like I may have heard it before somewhere, but I have no clue.

Aw, rats. I thought SURE you’d have this one. 😀 And I suspect there may be a few head smacks today! 😀 But maybe it really is harder than I thought. 😀 We’ll see! ❤

I have a thought about the book in the opening line, but I can’t connect it past that. Still thinking.

I have no idea about this one. I can’t even hazard a guess this time. We will all be gobsmacked when we learn the answer!

I think you are probably right, Darlene. I truly thought it was too easy. Hahaha. Little did I know, but then I never guess right on how hard or easy these will be. The answer will post in about another hour and a half, and you can see whether or not you’re familiar with this title. I suspect you will be. 😀 ❤
