#HappyNewYear!

There are many things I could reflect upon today, thinking back over the last year, but I find I’m not really in the mood for reflection. I’m in the mood to look ahead, hoping that 2020 is a great year for all of us. With that thought in mind, I decided to share some advice I gave myself a couple of years ago, and that I enjoy passing along from time to time, in case anyone else needs encouragement. Some of you may have read these words before, but I think they bear repeating now and then. Reminders never hurt, right? Especially at the dawn of a new year.

For others, maybe you’ll be inspired to take that first step toward a new goal or two. This could be the year you stop thinking about it and DO it, you know. And that’s what I’m wishing for everyone with a dream they haven’t dared to follow.

MAKE 2020 THE YEAR YOU
GO FOR IT!

  • Don’t think you can’t. You can.
  • Don’t wait for permission. You don’t need it.
  • Don’t wait for the time to be perfect. It never will be.
  • Don’t let age or lack of experience slow you down. The first is irrelevant, and the second will disappear as you make progress.
  • Do get up every day with the knowledge that your dream is worth the effort.
  • Do work hard. There are no shortcuts.
  • Do keep an open mind. There may be a better way to accomplish your goal.
  • Do remind yourself of your dream daily. Post It notes, memes, whatever it takes.
  • Do love what you’re doing. A labor of love is always the most rewarding work.
  • Do aim for your very best work, and never settle for less.

~~~
Remember, one idea, one step, one thing gained at a time, and before you know it, the mountain has been climbed, and the dream has become a reality! 🙂 ❤
Happy New Year!
  1. Great advice, Marcia. We can all use the encouragement, especially at the New Year. I can probably use some of it, myself, so I can get back to writing on my WIP and try to finish it. I hope I can get back to it after all the unpacking is done.
    • You’re welcome, Priscilla. I hope it inspires you to try something you’ve been hesitating about, or at least reminds you that the only way to change what you want into something you’ve achieved is to stay on course and believe in yourself. Have a Very happy New Year!
  2. Great advice, Marcia, and well worth saving, especially the one that says, “Don’t wait for the time to be perfect. It never will be.” I’ve realized that we choose to make time for what is really important to us. That ‘s my resolution for this year, to not be so distracted by other things.
    • A perfect resolution, Liz. So glad you liked the list. It has certainly pulled me out of the dumps many times, and when I stay focused on those things, I do just fine! (We are always our own worst enemy, aren’t we?) Good luck sticking to your resolution, and here’s to a wonderful 2020!! 🙂 ❤
    • Yay! I’m so glad they inspired you, Trish. I put that together a couple of years ago, and often start my talks with a reminder to the folks in the audience to follow their dreams. Every now and then, I dust it off and post it again, always hoping it will inspire some who’re still hesitant to go after the things they really want.
      As for 2020, while there will be some down times, I’m sure–there always are–for some reason, I feel ridiculously good about this year. I’m HAPPY to flip that calendar page over and march off into a new decade, too. I think 2020 is going to be productive and fun, both, and not necessarily in that order. 😀 Happy New Year, my friend. (BTW, as for The Light–stay tuned! I have some very good news coming real soon!) Shhh. I can say no more. 😀 ❤
    • Thanks, Joan, and happy New Year to you, too. Yes, I’m improving daily, though I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll never be able to add and subtract again, without a struggle. Happily, I have a calculator on a lanyard around my neck, and it has a great calculator! 😀 I never liked numbers, anyway. 😀
      Here’s hoping 2020 is a banner year for each of us! 🙂 ❤
    • Thanks so much, Mae. It’s something I put together a couple of years ago as part of my introduction at my presentation events. I keep it handy for when I need a bit of a reminder, and now and then, I post it somewhere, too. 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful 2020, Mae, and long may we PenderPals endure! 😀 ❤
    • Thanks, Deb! I put together those thoughts a couple of years ago to keep myself encouraged and on track. Every now and then, I pull them out and pass them along for those who may have missed them, or just need to hear them again. Happy New Year to you, as well! I think 2020 is going to be a great one! 🙂 ❤
