Dorian Update & Rescheduling Next Week’s Regular Features

Hi, Folks!

Been checking the updates on Dorian all day long, and it hasn’t swerved a bit so far, darn it. It is now scheduled to hit us here in the Orlando/Sanford area at 8:00am Tuesday, and though that might change, for now, it’s the best information we have. After a good bit of deliberation, running around wondering what I should do, and fretting over all the prep work still ahead for Mark & I to get ready for impact, I decided I should reschedule any posts I had planned for next week. It will be one less thing I have to worry about right now, and that’s a good thing.

Accordingly , I’m bumping everything to the week of Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, the 14th, skipping any pre-planned posts for September 1 through September 7. Tomorrow’s #FirstLineFriday will be the last regular feature until after September 8. Next week, if I’m able to get online, I’ll touch base and let you guys know what’s going on. If we get lucky and the storm is here and gone in a hurry, I’ll fill in the gaps. But our regularly scheduled events, such as #MondayMemes,  #ShareAReviewDay, the new #WriteStuffWednesday, #ThorsDaySmiles, and the next #FirstLineFriday will all return during the week of 9/8-9/14.

Hope this makes sense, and you guys understand that sometimes you have to do whatever it takes to stay safe (and stay SANE.) I think this is my best option right now, so there won’t be any last minute panic if we lose power here and I can’t run the various series as I’d like. 

Again, if the storm passes us by with no real interruption, you’ll be the first to know, and I’m sure I’ll find a few things to share with you next week.

Thanks for your understanding, and I do sincerely hope this all turns out to be much ado about nothing. (Oooh. Cool name for a play. 😀 )

    • Mark says he doesn’t want to leave unless we are ordered to evacuate, which I’ve never seen happen here. (We aren’t on the coast). He has buildings downtown he’s in charge of, too, as Chief Engineer, and a team of men that may be needed. He may have to go into work as soon as it’s safe. So I can see his point. (Not to mention the thing about traveling with 6 cats and a dachshund.) However, if they order us to go, we will go. Period. I’m not ignoring something like that, and then expecting others to risk their lives trying to rescue us.

      I just wish this thing would GO AWAY!!! I had hoped Irma would be the last time we had to face damage and destruction, but alas. Not the case.

        • Good move. Nothing would induce me to to buy or build a home on the coast, especially on a barrier island. Even here in the middle of the state, it’s ridiculously low, but we do have at least some miles between us and storm surge, etc.

          If I had my way, I’d be living in the North Carolina mountains. I’m a Florida native, but I don’t love anywhere I’ve ever been as much as I love those rolling, cloud-covered hills. Maybe when Mark retires in a couple of years, we’ll think about it. He might be hard to convince, but man, I’d love to be up there on a mountain stream somewhere. Guess I have to remind myself to bloom where I’m planted, even if a dang hurricane is on the way. 🙂

    • Thanks, Teagan. My son & family live 2 hours from here and are in the path of this bad boy, too. My DIL tells me they are prepared, so I’m trying not to worry about them, as well. 😯

  3. Sound prioritising there, Marcia. We’ll be hanging on waiting for the good news that the storm’s blown itself out having taken a detour over the water. Pity you can’t hook your computer up to the generator – then you could distract yourself with some more Rabbit writing!
    On the other hand, this gives you a chance to read to your heart’s content without feeling guilty about other tasks you should be doing. Something nice to drink, a comfy chair and a stack of reading material – (I’ve updated Omar Khayyam a tad there) – and you could be lost in a parallel universe until the bad in this one has passed. ❤ ❤ ❤

    • I’m not going to unplug if I don’t have to, Trish, and will be able to check in or post some small things here and there, if all goes well. But in the event power is out for days, as it can be, I just wanted to be sure I wasn’t abandoning everyone who’d wanted to share special things next week. Bumping them seemed like a better idea. But all that reading time you describe, while it sounds heavenly, will only happen if we get slammed. And if we do, it will probably be a nightmare scenario like last time. URK. Either way, any free time I have over the next week belongs to Rabbit! He’s got a mystery to wrap up, after all. And it might not be pretty! 😯 😀

    • Thanks, Darlene. Relaxing is going to be pretty hard, though I am TRYING not to get worked up over the stuff I can’t control. Just plugging away at the things I know need to be done. We’ll be bringing camping gear (Coleman lanterns, stoves, 5-gallon water containers, etc) out of the attic and getting a “primitive” kitchen set up, in case we lose power. We’ve had to do that even for smaller storms, so we’ll want to prepare for that, etc. But if anyone is set up to get through this sort of thing, we are. Fingers crossed it’s all for naught. 🙂 ❤

    • Yeah, I was getting all worked up over setting up next week’s posts, and then wondering how I’d be able to monitor them if the power went, and all of a sudden I realized this is one thing I CAN control. Just delay the posts for a week, and let that one task go. It feels like the right decision already. Sanity is hard enough to hold on to these days without adding complications to situations like this if you can avoid them. And I’m absolutely sure you know whereof I speak. 🙂 Thanks, Debby, and I’ll keep in touch as long as possible. 🙂 ❤

    • The current info suggests a Category 4 when it makes landfall on the coast, then dropping to a 3 or below as it travels northward up the center of the state. (The better to impact every single person living here! :shock:) But it is trending slightly southward, and the timeline has extended to Tuesday for landfall, Wednesday for those of us in the Orlando area. With luck, maybe it will keep trending south, and skirt the tip of Florida altogether. Of course, what’s luck for us might be awful for someone else. 😦 Thanks for your well wishes and prayers, Jeanne. 🙂 ❤

  11. Marcia, staying sane and safe are your priorities. And I can understand your husband’s reluctance to leave. Will be keeping you and yours (including the six cats and one dachshund), as well as my Florida family, in our thoughts.

    • Working on both of those, Sherrey! Mark told me again last night, he’d probably have to be available after the storm passes through our area to assess building damage, so he really can’t leave, unless it’s mandatory. And I’m sure not going without him. So we’ll ride this one out, unless ordered to go. Thanks for including the 6 cats and the one old dachshund in your well wishes. (Only 4 of the cats are ours. We’re baby-sitting my daughter’s two until they get situated in Denver, then we’ll fly them out to them.) But 4 or 6, that’s still a lot of CAT for a back seat they’d be sharing with the dog!! Even in crates, the thought makes me shudder. 😯 🙂 ❤

    • I have this vision of all my online friends trying to get through their busy days with fingers, toes, and maybe even EYES crossed! It’s cheering me up considerably! 😀 😀 😀 Thanks, Harmony, and I’ll keep you guys updated as long as I can. Fingers crossed this is soon over, with no major damages to deal with.   13. Thinking of you and all Floridians as you prepare for this major storm. We in New England are watching it closely also. We have many friends who live in various FL locations, and we were with a friend last night who has a flight scheduled for FL on Saturday to visit his ailing mom. Hoping he postpones that flight!     • Thanks, Pam! And I hope your friend can reschedule. It is NOT a good time to visit Florida, with the storm predicted to make landfall Tuesday. It will be preceded by lots of wind and rain, long before the eye touches the coast. I understand his desire to be with his mom, but I hope he can make an alternate arrangement.

      And all thoughts, well wishes, positive energy, and prayers are most gratefully accepted. Every year at this time, I remember yet another reason why I long to move to the North Carolina mountains. (As if the beauty and mystery of those oldest mountains in the world isn’t enough.) But I’m here for now, and I’ll suck it up and do my best to weather this storm. Thoughts and prayers from my online friends have buoyed me considerably. Thanks again. 🙂 ❤

  14. This is so scary. I’ve been praying for your safety and that the dang thing will stay off the coast and die in the ocean. Hunker down with Mark, your cats and your dachshund and don’t worry about anything else. Keep us posted when you can. We’ll all be worried how you fare through this! {{hugs}}

    • The storm is currently moving more slowly, though that will likely change over open water, and is due to hit the coast Tuesday morning, and pass through our area on Wednesday. But there’s plenty of time for it to change direction and skirt the tip of Florida altogether. That’s what I hope will happen, though that can cause problems, too, if it heads into the Gulf. Hurricanes STINK!!!!
