OCD About Books? You Bet! #amwriting

Am I the only one who gets a tad OCD about her favorite books? I have now created my very own “Still Life with Crows” on the shelf directly over my monitor. Every time I look up, I’m reminded of how much I love the Pendergast books. And crows. And then I continue typing, much inspired. Silly? Possibly. But it makes me happy, and what’s better than being hard at work with a smile on your face?  

BTW, the two books on the right of this little tableau are Leigh Bardugo’s duology, Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom, two huge favorites of mine, too. How could I resist adding those gorgeous crow covers to my little vignette? I couldn’t. And I highly recommend using your favorite books in creative ways around your work space, too. It really is inspirational. That’s my story, an’ I’m stickin’ to it! 😀

  3. I have heard only good things about Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom (and those covers are gorgeous). And you KNOW I am all fan girl about our man Pendergast and Still Life with Crows. LOVE your shelf set-up. Talk about eye candy!

    • I know. I’m still giggling with delight every time I look at it. LOVE my new bookends, too!

      The Bardugo books are part of the same world as Bardugo’s Grisha books. I enjoyed those, too, but Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom just blew me away. I’m pretty sure you’d enjoy them, and I think they could be read as stand-alones, though that’s not something I usually (ever, really) do. But they are beautiful, and Kaz Brekker is a character right up there in my top five or so. He really touched my heart. And Bardugo’s writing is excellent, too.

      Now about Pendergast … 😀

    • You’ll be surprised at how often it’ll make you smile! It’s like having old friends–who have held up remarkably well through the years and don’t talk overly much–visiting you at work. 😀 Besides, what else would you do with a book entitled Still Life with Crows, except create a still life with it? 😀 😀 😀

  5. I like that, Marcia! These days I buy most of my books in electronic format, but I still have some favorites in both paperback and hardback. Which reminds me that I have some owl bookends packed away somewhere…

    • Thanks, Joan. I read ALL my books on Kindle, actually, so I can set the type larger. But when there’s a series that I truly fall in love with, I HAVE to have the print books, too. Trouble with this one is the earlier books are hard to find in hardback versions that are affordable. I’m having to settle for some in paperback. For now! I haven’t given up, though. If they’re out there, I WILL find them!!! 😀 See? OCD. Hahahaha.

    • Oh, trust me. The same would happen here. I have 6 floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in my library, 2 more in the family room, another in the living room, and another ceiling-high bookshelf headboard in my bedroom. This is just my little display area over my computer desk, where I like to display whatever I’m currently enjoying most. And because I love crows, this particular Still Life with Crows book (one of 20+ in a series I’m reading) inspired me to go with this look. Eventually, it will go to something else, but not until (and IF) I get tired of it. Heck, I even have one full shelf of signed books I’ve gotten over the years, including an ancient, nearly crumbling 1930’s edition of Rebecca, signed by Daphne du Maurier somewhere around 1939.

      My OCD-ness with books has been going on a long time, and takes many, many forms. But I always have something I especially love close to my work area, just to make me smile. And when I can combine two different authors I enjoy with birds I love, well, I’m in heaven, that’s all there is to it. 😀

    • I love sticking appropriate little items in with my books on all of my shelves, but this one directly over my computer gets special treatment. I change it out with whatever’s on my mind at the time. If I’m in love with a certain series, then it usually reflects that. Glad you enjoyed seeing it, Staci. Whatever inspires us or makes us happy is what I think we should see from our work area. 😀
