#ReleaseDayNews – The Emissary 2: To Love Somebody Is Now Available!

The past year has been one of writing in fits and starts and changing books in mid-stream. It was the first time I’ve set aside one draft to start another, and the first year in which I have only finished one book. So far. But today, I’m very happy to say that The Emisssary 2: To Love Somebody is now available for download on Amazon.

How It All Came About:

After I published my second Riverbend novel, Finding Hunter, I began receiving a lot of questions about Gabe Angelino, a trucker who played a pivotal role in the story. It appears Willow wasn’t the only one who thought he might be a real angel instead of just a good man. At every local event, someone invariably asked me about that mysterious trucker, so I decided I better do something about it. But what?

I considered the idea for a while, then the lightbulb went off! Maybe a standalone novella would be a way to tell Gabe’s story without falling too far behind on my series. The first questions I needed to answer were the ones everyone kept asking me—was Gabe Angelino really an angel? Or was he just a nice guy?

Hmmm. I pondered. I drank many cups of Earl Grey and pondered longer. After an hour or two of this, I knew exactly what I wanted to do:

  • Was Gabe an angel? No.
  • Was he just a nice guy? No.
  • Was his name even Gabe Angelino? No.

Gabe was going to be something different. Unique.  And hopefully, someone who would both make people smile and speak to their hearts. Thus began the what-ifs:

  • What if angels were desperately overworked?
  •  What if the population of the world had increased to such staggering proportions that it was becoming more and more difficult for angels to keep track of souls in peril?
  • What if all the constant sturm und drang around the planet was driving angels to distraction and making their jobs so difficult, they needed help?
  • Finally, what if Azrael, the archangel in charge of all things connected to helping souls cross over into Heaven after death, has had enough?

Even angels deserve decent working conditions, right? I pictured Azrael at his wit’s end, every bit as stressed and put upon as the chief executive in any large, but short-staffed, organization. What would he do? How would he go about enlisting help? And who would be his first new hire? When I had answered those questions in my own mind, The Emissary was born. And now, in spite of interruptions too numerous to mention, The Emisssary 2: To Love Somebody is ready for download, too!

Yep. Jake, Dodger, and the archangel Azrael are on the job, again, and this time around, they are traveling the length and breadth of Florida, from Cedar Key to Key West, and into the Florida panhandle, as well. Of course, as I wrote this one–set in 2014–I had no idea Panama City would soon be known for far less pleasant things than the pristine white sand beach stretching for miles along the Gulf of Mexico’s famous Emerald Coast. Therefore, the horrifying and heartbreaking drama Jake and Dodger faced on their panhandle visit was strictly man-made!

I’d like to add that nothing in this series is to be taken with anything other than a grain of salt the size of a certain red and white semi, though I do think there may be nuggets of truth hidden here and there. Instead, these are stories that readers can enjoy on various levels, with the understanding that they are not in any way meant as religious doctrine, but rather as fun bits of “what-if-ery.”

And finally, it is my sincere hope you’ll enjoy this middle book of the Emissary Trilogy, but please note that it is not a stand-alone novella. With that in mind, you can buy the first Emissary novella HERE.)

BLURB:

They’re back!

Jake and Dodger, the first (and so far, only) Emissaries to the Angels, are on the road again.

They’re looking for mortals about to take a wrong turn. You know the ones—the kid thinking about stealing from a corner market or the man planning to lie about a coworker and destroy her career. Yeah, them. People on the brink of making a mistake that could send them down that wrong road and jeopardize their mortal souls.

Of course, there are rules by which the emissaries must play, and the archangel Azrael stands ready to enforce them. First and foremost, a person’s free will must never be compromised. Emissaries are allowed to use only the smallest of mental nudges. Thankfully, a whispered suggestion here or images of a better course of action there is usually all it takes. The potential mugger walks on by. The thief drops the wallet back into the unattended purse. But whether the results are obvious or not, Jake and Dodger are fully committed to making a positive difference, even as they struggle with issues of their own.

Will Dodger get over losing his chance to learn what true love is all about? Will Jake survive the grueling angelic equivalent of Boot Camp? Will Azrael ever finish the Official Emissarial Guidebook—including the chapter titled Do Not Even Think About It?

One thing’s for sure—Jake’s and Dodger’s strengths are growing daily, as they help more and more people make better choices. But is the price for so much power higher than they’re willing to pay?

  1. YIPPEE!!!! I just hopped over to Amazon and grabbed my copy. I am so looking forward to reading this one, Marcia. Congratulations and best wishes for many, many sales. It was great hearing the background of how this series came to be. I’m so glad people kept asking about Jake, otherwise we wouldn’t have The Emissary and Emissary 2. Joy!

  2. Congratulations! Just bought both of them and am looking forward to treating myself to a snuggle down with them in the very near future! (If only real life didn’t get in the way so much of my reading and writing…) ❤ 🙂

    • Aw,thanks, Trish! I hope you enjoy them when you get a chance to check them out. And believe me, I know all about that lack of reading time! It is the only real drawback to becoming a writer, I think. I don’t have nearly as much time for reading as I once did, and I truly do miss that.

I’ll be eager to hear your thoughts when you read them. (If it’s any help. they are each just about 105-108 pages and can be read in an evening. Honest.) 😀 ❤

    • Azrael would agree with you, Balroop! 😀 And that has certainly been the way of it for me. My first book was meant to be a stand-alone romantic suspense, but before I knew what was happening, a little boy came along, hogged the storyline for the second one, and then usurped the entire series. Same thing with my second book, Swamp Ghosts. A relatively minor but quirky character caught my eye, and darn if he didn’t get his own book. Then his brothers demanded equal time, so they got one, too. And so it grows! 😀

Thanks for your well-wishes, and I hope they come true. I’d love to see this little series do exceptionally well, just because it’s so much fun to write. 😀 ❤

    • Thank you so much, Diana. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Of everything I’ve written so far, nothing has been more fun than hanging out with Jake, Dodger, and Azrael. 🙂 Hope you’ll get a chance to read about them someday. ❤

    • Thanks, Mary! I’m happy to finally have this one wrapped up, and yes, it’s back to Rabbit. I’m about halfway through the draft of Wake-Robin Ridge 4: The Light. My betas are waiting for me to get back to it, too. (They can be testy at times, you know.) 😀

    • Thanks so much, Darlene! I’m pretty happy to see it out today, for sure. And my cover designer is my very good gardening buddy of at least 12 years, who just happens to be a professional graphic designer. How lucky am I? 😀 She says we share one brain, so I always know she’s going to “get” my idea, and then improve on it ten-fold! I love it when things work out like that! 😀

    • Yippee! So happy you were that eager, Debby! Greatly appreciated, I can assure you. As for a machine, well, I seem to have a few bolts missing these days, and some rust here and there, as well. But I’m still chugging along, so I guess I won’t complain! 😀 Hope you enjoy this one. I’ll be eager to see what you think. 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Lynn! I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts, if you find time to check it out. These three characters always surprise me, so I hope they’ll have a few surprises for readers, as well. 🙂 ❤

    • Looking forward to being there tomorrow, Marje, and thanks again for inviting me. So excited to be getting this one out and about, and I hope your followers will enjoy the brief excerpt I chose for you. (In a book that’s only 105 pages, you can’t very well use long ones, even on a MINI blog tour, or you’d tell the whole tale! 😀 ) See you then!

    • Not to worry, Sarah. I’m running so far behind, I’ll never catch up, and even had to do another mass delete of emails last night. 😦 😥 I’m just glad you’re excited about TE2 and ready to grab a copy. Thanks so much for letting me know! 🙂 ❤

      • I’ll honestly never catch up, either so… Mass delete! (It’s got to be done, my friend. Save yourself! No, seriously, save yourself. Take car of you and love yourself enough to NOT FEEL GUILTY.)
        You = kettle
        Me = pot

        I am SO excited about TE2! 🙂 ❤

        • Haha. Yep, I’m saving myself. I realized without the mass delete, I’d lose what’s left of my mind, and then how would I be able to finish any of my series?

I really hope you enjoy TE2, Sarah. I simply love writing these characters, because I can be as over the top emotional with them as I want. It’s just that kind of story, I think, since it’s not as grounded in reality as either of my other series. I’ll be eager to hear what you think. 🙂 ❤ And hopefully this week, I won't have to do any more email deletions. Fingers crossed.
