Rabbit Stole My Heart

Every now and then, an author manages to write a character so distinctive and impactful, he becomes difficult to forget. Sometimes it’s someone inherently evil; other times the character is a beacon of good. But seldom does such a character elevate himself past memorable — to do so is to vault over a rather high bar.

Marcia Meara’s Rabbit is one such character.

I can tell you she’s written another lovely book with a solid plot. I can tell you her settings are vivid and her villain chilling. All of that is true. Yet none of it matters.

I recommend this story because of a little boy named Rabbit who climbed down off a mountain and strode right into my heart.

This is a heart-warming tale of love and family, one that’s sure to tug at any reader’s heartstrings. It’s also a story you don’t want to miss. It’s a must-read.

Marcia Meara lives in central Florida, just north of Orlando, with her husband of over thirty years, four big cats, and two small dachshunds. When not writing or blogging, she spends her time gardening, and enjoying the surprising amount of wildlife that manages to make a home in her suburban yard. At the age of five, Marcia declared she wanted to be an author, and is ecstatic that at age 69, she finally began pursuing that dream. Her belief in the redemptive power of love is a unifying factor in both of her popular series and her poetry. Today, she’s still going strong, and plans to keep on writing until she falls face down on the keyboard, which she figures would be a pretty good way to go!

    • Thanks, Teagan! I’ve been sharing some of my reviews as Bonus reviews on Sunday, but since no one was scheduled for today, I thought I’d put this one here, instead. The story seems to be one that my readers really enjoy, and I do know that Rabbit is generally the hands down favorite of all my characters when I ask readers I meet.   2. What an excellent review! Your first Wake-Robin Ridge book gripped me (in good ways, with the romance, and then with a bit of fear in the scary parts!). I’ve reviewed it on Amazon and Goodreads. I love how we bloggers/authors/readers believe in each other, in our talents as writers, and then follow through with honest and great reviews.

I can’t wait to see what you think of Little Rabbit if you get a chance to read that one. He more or less usurped my entire Romantic Suspense series and it’s now something else altogether. Still spooky, with Appalachian ghost stories and legends, but Rabbit is the heart of the series, now. He lives in my head and tells me every word to write down, just as it happened to him. 😀 ❤

    • Aw, thanks, Mary!! So good to see you here. I’ve been missing you, and it’s all my own fault, because I’m so far behind, I can’t catch up with my favorite blogs. I’m digging my way out, slowly but surely, though, as I wrap up The Emissary 2 and get ready to finish WRR4.

      • No worries, Marcia. I’m kind of drowning in stuff at the moment, too. I’m working as a museum attendant in the Robert Burns House museum and it’s playing havoc with my life. We can only do so much! But we’ll catch up evenetually 🙂

    • Rabbit did an interview on Sue Vincent’s blog where he told the folk tale of Boojum and Hootin’ Annie. I’m pretty sure you commented on that, but I didn’t know you might have read the book, too. I can’t tell from the 2018 reviews, or I would have been sure to thank you. ( It’s the second in the series, so you’d probably have read Wake-Robin Ridge first.) At any rate, if you haven’t yet read the whole book, I hope you will. And if you have, I’m very happy, and would love to read your review. 😀 ❤

      • Way back in 2016, I read and reviewed Rabbit. I thought I had also reviewed it on Amazon, but apparently I didn’t. I was very green back then, and floundering around like an idiot. It occurs to me that many more of our reviews need to be posted on Amazon, as that was the original intent. Our review was originally posted on our site in April 2016, but I can’t find it. I think I have just discovered a yawning hole in my system, shortly to be rectified…

  15. Just catching up on a huge backlog of stuff and clawed my way up a mountain of emails to this one.
    It’s a wonderful review and chimes with my thoughts on Rabbit, too. Mine’s another heart he stole! I’m sooo looking forward to the next one.

    • Aw, thanks, Trish. You’ll be glad to know that the draft for the next one is halfway completed. I’m editing The Emissary 2 right now, and should be wrapping that up shortly. Then I can get back to Rabbit’s World, and maybe people will quit throwing rotten eggs at me when I do my local presentations. (That kid’s a favorite!) 😀 Glad you like this review! 🙂 ❤
