The emphasis on partnership is present throughout D.G. Kaye’s story of her 20 year marriage to Gordon. Whilst it is clear, that theirs was a wonderful love affair from the beginning, she does not flinch from describing the various aspects of their relationship in a very forthright and honest way.

Their relationship is a May/September love affair that was put to the test from very shortly after their marriage. Despite the nearly 20 years age difference, it was Kaye who suffered a near fatal medical emergency, which brought home the fact, it is not necessarily the older partner, who will be the first to suffer ill health.

The book does highlight that in a relationship where there is a significant age difference, issues arise that might not for a couple the same age. Having children for example, or the dynamics in a relationship after retirement  and natural aging; reversing the traditional roles, as one becomes more dependent on the other.

D.G. Kaye allows us an intimate view into her marriage, encouraging us to look at our own relationships, appreciate how they have triumphed over challenges over the years, and to celebrate the love that endures.

I certainly recommend the book for those who are about to embark on a relationship, whatever the age difference. In this modern day and age, when the pressures on couples and families are ever present, it is very useful to be offered the experience and guidance from someone who has successfully navigated their way through those same obstacles.

  12. Congrats on your review Debby. There are thirteen years between my mum and dad. Dad might be older at 89 he is slowing down somewhat but still waltzing in his living room and in cruises! He takes after his mischievous grandfather who was still walking miles at age 90!

  14. Marcia, it’s wonderful how you are promoting reviews in this way and I’m so happy to come across this one for Debby’s memoir. Sally’s review is terrific, taking in the book as a whole and showing us how it touches varies elements within a marriage over time and age.

    It’s interesing to read about Sally’s reservations regarding Amazon and reviews … I’m seeing lots of upset recently … I wonder if the global reach of problems will have any impact and effect a change of heart and /or policy?

    • Thanks, Annika! I’m glad you liked this idea, and that you enjoyed Sally’s super review for Debby’s book.

      As for Amazon, I think they are struggling to come up with a way to deal with the thousands of bogus reviews that skew the entire system into something pretty much meaningless for authors. It’s a thorny problem, and I don’t believe they have come up with their final answer. (Not even sure there IS a final, final one). In the meantime, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. They are my bread and butter, and while I hate seeing my occasional review disappear, for the time being, I’m willing to live with it, as they try to find a better solution.

      It’s a shame, but as we all know, there are always some who will look for a way to play the system to make a fast buck, or who will try to tear apart things simply for the sheer, perverted pleasure of it. Now, Amazon’s scrambling to sort it out.

      Nice to see you here today, and I hope you’ll enjoy this feature in the weeks to come. Hoping it will get new eyes on what people are saying about our hard work. 🙂

    • Thanks so much Annika ❤ Yes, Amazon seems to be giving many a hard time posting reviews. Sally said she can only post on UK. I haven't had any problems yet posting on .com even though I'm Canadian. It's a lottery I tell ya! 🙂 x

    Thank you so much for sharing such an enthusiastic review from over at Sally’s .. Debby’s excellent writing skills shines out in all she creates..
    And while age plays its part in our relationships, maturing together no matter what ages we are, brings us closer together thought our trials and tribulations.. Being there for one another, obviously shone through, and its been my privilege and pleasure to get to know Debby through our blogging community..
