Please join me today in welcoming D. G. Kaye (Debby Gies) to #ShareAReviewDay. Many of us know Deb from all sorts of places around social media, where she is a staunch supporter of writers everywhere. I’m very happy to have her share this review of “Twenty Years After “I Do,” and I know you will enjoy both reading it and sharing it with others. Thanks!
Source: Sally Cronin’s Smorgasbord Invitation – Book Reviews
The emphasis on partnership is present throughout D.G. Kaye’s story of her 20 year marriage to Gordon. Whilst it is clear, that theirs was a wonderful love affair from the beginning, she does not flinch from describing the various aspects of their relationship in a very forthright and honest way.
Their relationship is a May/September love affair that was put to the test from very shortly after their marriage. Despite the nearly 20 years age difference, it was Kaye who suffered a near fatal medical emergency, which brought home the fact, it is not necessarily the older partner, who will be the first to suffer ill health.
The book does highlight that in a relationship where there is a significant age difference, issues arise that might not for a couple the same age. Having children for example, or the dynamics in a relationship after retirement and natural aging; reversing the traditional roles, as one becomes more dependent on the other.
D.G. Kaye allows us an intimate view into her marriage, encouraging us to look at our own relationships, appreciate how they have triumphed over challenges over the years, and to celebrate the love that endures.
I certainly recommend the book for those who are about to embark on a relationship, whatever the age difference. In this modern day and age, when the pressures on couples and families are ever present, it is very useful to be offered the experience and guidance from someone who has successfully navigated their way through those same obstacles.
BLURB
In this personal accounting, D.G. Kaye shares the insights and wisdom she has accrued through twenty years of keeping her marriage strong and thriving despite the everyday changes and challenges of aging. Kaye reveals how a little creative planning, acceptance, and unconditional love can create a bond no obstacle will break. Kaye’s stories are informative, inspiring, and a testament to love eclipsing all when two people understand, respect, and honor their vows. She adds that a daily sprinkling of laughter is a staple in nourishing a healthy marriage.
Twenty years began with a promise. As Kaye recounts what transpired within that time, she shows that true love has no limits, even when one spouse ages ahead of the other.

Delighted to be part of Marcia Meara’s new series, where she invites authors to submit their reviews so that they can reach a different and wider audience. Today D.G. Kaye.. Debby Gies, shares my review of her book Twenty Years After “I Do” an excellent guide to anyone contemplating getting married, whatever the age difference. Building and maintaining a loving relationship can always use a little wisdom…

I LOVE that your review, which Deb shared here, has now been shared back on Smorgasbord, where it began, helping to get the word out about this new feature along the way. 😀 😀 😀 If we can keep them going via our various blogs, we can put these wonderful reviews in front of of more and more potential readers. THANKS for the reblog, Sally!! I believe in the power of word of mouth/blog, and appreciate all the sharing you do on Smorgasbord. You ROCK, you know!

Thank you Marcia.. we cannot rely on platforms like Amazon to list the reviews, and now that they are only on country of origin it is even more difficult. Goodreads is fine, but they too do not send out notices of reviews so are as static. Authors are readers usually first, and with the community here on WP, Facebook and Twitter alone we can probably muster several hundred followers of like minded people. It is a massive audience and as you say provides us with an amazing way to pass the word in a proactive way… hugs xxx ♥♥

And pass the word we shall! 🙂 Count me in to do as much as I can in that regard, though my time is stretched too thin these days. Still, that’s probably true of most, if not all, of us, so we just have to do the best we can. We’re writers. We help each other! 🙂 ❤

Such a fan of DG Kaye’s. I’ve read two of her books and find her insightful, delightful, and a voice that speaks to and for “women of a certain age.” So nice to see this here today! Made me smile!

My Mom is nearly 13 years older than my Dad (actually step dad but in reality DAD!). My mom will be 80 this year and my Dad is 67. You would think it was the other way around. My Mom is so active and amazing.

Congrats on your review Debby. There are thirteen years between my mum and dad. Dad might be older at 89 he is slowing down somewhat but still waltzing in his living room and in cruises! He takes after his mischievous grandfather who was still walking miles at age 90!

Marcia, it’s wonderful how you are promoting reviews in this way and I’m so happy to come across this one for Debby’s memoir. Sally’s review is terrific, taking in the book as a whole and showing us how it touches varies elements within a marriage over time and age.
It’s interesing to read about Sally’s reservations regarding Amazon and reviews … I’m seeing lots of upset recently … I wonder if the global reach of problems will have any impact and effect a change of heart and /or policy?

Thanks, Annika! I’m glad you liked this idea, and that you enjoyed Sally’s super review for Debby’s book.
As for Amazon, I think they are struggling to come up with a way to deal with the thousands of bogus reviews that skew the entire system into something pretty much meaningless for authors. It’s a thorny problem, and I don’t believe they have come up with their final answer. (Not even sure there IS a final, final one). In the meantime, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. They are my bread and butter, and while I hate seeing my occasional review disappear, for the time being, I’m willing to live with it, as they try to find a better solution.
It’s a shame, but as we all know, there are always some who will look for a way to play the system to make a fast buck, or who will try to tear apart things simply for the sheer, perverted pleasure of it. Now, Amazon’s scrambling to sort it out.
Nice to see you here today, and I hope you’ll enjoy this feature in the weeks to come. Hoping it will get new eyes on what people are saying about our hard work. 🙂

Thanks so much Annika ❤ Yes, Amazon seems to be giving many a hard time posting reviews. Sally said she can only post on UK. I haven't had any problems yet posting on .com even though I'm Canadian. It's a lottery I tell ya! 🙂 x

You are very welcome, Sue. Our new #ShareAReviewDay Tuesday is looking like a solid hit, and it allows me to have writers like Debby present what readers are saying about their books. That’s such an impactful way to reach potential new readers, I think, and I hope this will be an ongoing feature for a long time to come. Thanks for stopping by today, and taking the time to comment. Lovely to have you here. 🙂
