Couldn’t resist sharing these. My four-year-old grandson, seeing snow for the first time, in Charleston, SC! Not a LOT of snow, but to him, it’s magical.  I can tell from the expression on his face, he’s about to throw that first snowball at his mommy. (Or possibly, his daddy.) Here’s one kid who’s thoroughly enjoying the cold.

  2. Glad you got that tree out of the way! Roof fixed too, I hope–all you need is snow in the attic or garage or anywhere indoors. Mother Nature’s been treating you to adventures. Out here in California, it’s year-round fire season!!

    • Well, if it snows here in central FLORIDA, it really will be a shock! My daughter is about 7 hours north of us, and it’s much colder there. Although we ARE having our first freeze of the year tonight. It’s 40 right now, will hit about 32 tonight and tomorrow, then will warm back up to the 60s and 70s, probably. That’s winter here.

      We have a beautiful brand new roof, though, so this morning’s rain was no longer a problem, and everything should be finished in another 2 weeks, barring any hold-ups. (Four months from storm to done, if that holds true.) Thanks for the well wishes, Anna! Very glad we are almost done with it all, and looking forward to my days being my own again. 😀 Stay safe out there. (Been watching those horrible, frightening fires, and thinking of you folks!) And happy new year!

      • Gosh, I thought the snowy treat was bestowed upon you–I saw a headline this a.m. that said Tallahassee got snow. We lived in Orlando for 8 years and I remember a frost warning or two–back when there were still enough orange groves in the area that folks worried about things like that. We’re pushing 80 today and there’s a rumor of rain by next week.Take care and Happy New Year!

        • Nope. My daughter and family are in Charleston, but it IS pretty nippy here, for the Orlando area. About 40 years ago, when we lived in Tampa, we did get some snow. You had to drive north about 30 miles to see it lying on the ground, but it blew around our yard all day. Even that was exciting! 😀

          In spite of a freeze tonight, it will be warm again by Saturday, somewhere between 65 and 75, possibly even closer to 80. But the panic of freezes in years past doesn’t happen here anymore. Most of the groves in our area are gone, sadly, and the days of the “smudge pots” burning all night to try to save the orange crop are gone, now. I hadn’t thought about those in a long, long time.

          Since Irma pretty much flattened my entire garden, I don’t even have to worry about my plants freezing. Most of them are history, until I have time to replant. 😦 Oh, well. Planning a new garden is always fun. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, and one day it will be a thing of beauty again. 😀

  4. I probably saw my first snow when mom brought me home from the hospital. Being born in early March on the Canadian prairies, you can be sure there was snow around then. I grew up with it so it never impressed me. In fact, I never liked it! Maybe that’s why I live in Spain now. Your grandson is so cute. Happy New Year!!

    • Ha. They do say familiarity breeds contempt, so it’s no wonder you weren’t impressed by snow. And having spent a winter or two in the north, myself, I can attest to that being true. I always loved the beauty of the first real snow of the season, but after a while, it got old. However, I truly detest hot weather, and would never have moved back to my home state if not for my husband. I long for the mountains, myself, with nice summers, stunning falls, and enough winter to be enjoyable before the flowers bud out in the spring. I’m afraid month after month of HOT weather makes me very, very cranky. 😯 😀

    • I know! I would have loved to have been there to hear his squeals! He’s such a delight to be around, and throws himself into every new adventure whole-heartedly. I’m so glad he got his wish. 😀

  8. What a precious photo. Your grandson’s happy face with the glee in his eyes.
    I will hit gramma or grandpa with it. Such incredible fun. First snowball.
    I am afraid I was born a winter of ice and snow and always grew up with deep snow. I must say I loved our games and snowball wars.

    • So glad you enjoyed the pics, Miriam. Yes, Kaelen is having so much fun. Erin has been sending pics all day, and the snow has continued to come down. It looks to be at least 3″ or more on the ground now, unheard of for this far south. Kaelen and his friend have built a real snowman! I’m so tickled for him!

    • Oh, Lori, it has continued to snow all day, and they have been playing in it for hours. It looks surprisingly deep on the ground, and they’ve built a snowman and everything. I never expected it to last quite that long. His wish sure came true! 🙂

  10. What fun! I was born and grew up in Barcelona (it’s where I am at the moment and will be moving back to in a few months) and there, snow is very rare. I think I’ve only ever seen snow there twice in my life, although we went to the Pyrenees when I was about 13 and that was the first time I saw snow. During the time I’ve lived in the UK, I’ve seen snow quite often, though. Thanks, Marcia, and I’m pleased to read that things are almost back to normal.

    • Thanks, Olga. I’ll be very happy when I have my normal routine back again. (Tomorrow, there will be workmen INSIDE the house at 9:00am! Eeeeep. They have ceiling damage to repair from roof leaks. But we are getting closer to the finish line every day.

      I’m glad you enjoyed the pics of the very rare snowfall in Charleston. It’s a town of the deep south, for sure, and this was a surprise.

      You’ve lived a lot of interesting places, with widely varying weather conditions. Yes, I’m sure snow became an old friend in the UK, but now, it will be rare to you again. 🙂

  11. Ah, lovely! I’m glad your life is reaching ‘some’ normality, Marcia.Not online much at the moment; hubby has had an op.. on his feet and needs lots of help getting around. Hope by Spring all will be ‘normal’ here as well. x

  12. I remember below-freezing winters in Pennsylvania. Your glasses would steam up upon coming inside. I recall a winter with winds so high that snow drifts blocked our door and we couldn’t get out of the house! I hear that Florida got some snow. Hope you’re staying warm and cozy, my friend.     • I spent a winter in Pennsylvania, but nothing more severe than the normal for the area. Lots of snow, which is great in the country, but turns to brown slush in the city. That kind of thing. We had a hard freeze last night, and had 1/4″ of ice in the birdbath today, which is about as bad as it gets here. It’s supposed to repeat tonight, then start warming back up into the 70s. Do we have winter here in Florida? Yep. This year it was today and tomorrow. 😀

      Haven’t turned on the heat, since it’s still in the low 60s in the house, but I dragged out my ancient old sweater for a couple of hours today. I don’t own a single long-sleeved shirt, much less a jacket of any kind, but for some reason, I still have this ratty sweater hanging around. 😀

    • We live in central Florida, and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen snow, myself. I’m so glad Kaelen got to enjoy two full days of snow. That’s amazing for as far south as Charleston, South Carolina is. They’ve got at least 4″ on the ground, still, and maybe deeper than that, and they got to build snowmen, and throw snowballs, and use their beach boogie boards for sledding. Twice magical, indeed! 🙂
