Local Event: Enterprise Heritage Museum, August 12, 2017

Anyone who’s followed this blog very long knows how much I enjoy doing local presentations of all sorts, including Meet the Author Readings & Book Signings, Tea With the Author, St. Johns River Eco Tour Meet & Greets, and various Nature Related slideshow presentations. I’m excited to say that I have added something new this summer–a slide show entitled 100 Years of Writing: An Author’s Perspective. And no, I haven’t been writing 100 years. (Only 4). But I’ve done a good bit of research and found out a lot of cool stuff about how authors wrote and published their books in 1917. Some of the things I discovered just might surprise you!

If you are in the area on Saturday, August 12, from 11:00am to 1:30pm,  please consider joining us at the Enterprise Heritage Museum, address and phone number below. I did a trial run of the show at the traveling Smithsonian exhibit last month (The Way We Worked) and everyone seemed to have a good time, so why not come see for yourself? The museum is asking a $7 donation, which includes the show and a light lunch. And I’ll also be available afterward for Q&A and signing books.

Here’s the info, once again:

WHEN:  11:00am to 1:30pm, Saturday, August 12, 2017
WHERE: Enterprise Heritage Center & Museum
                  360 Main Street, Enterprise, FL
Call 386-259-5900 for Reservations
ADMISSION: $7.00 donation which includes presentation and lunch

    • I’m remarkably well-preserved, aren’t I? I attribute it to clean living. (Oh, hahahaha. Sometimes I crack myself up!) It’s not quite as impressive as it sounds, though. I do a lot of things for this little museum, because it’s a wonderful, charming venue. A 1936 school house that is being lovingly and carefully restored to the way it once was. And they took part in the Smithsonian thing, with a terrific display that was shipped to them for the event. Then they asked local folks to do talks on a variety of careers and how they had changed over the last 100 years. I was invited to do the talk on writing, and it was SO much fun to research, and to present. I had a lovely, attentive, and responsive audience. (Read, they laughed at ALL my jokes! 😀 )

I was very pleased that I was asked to tweak the talk a wee bit so I could continue to give it in the area, and I’ll be doing it in August, and then again for DeBary Hall (another favorite venue) in December. Aren’t I the luckiest 100 year old lady you ever saw? I think so!!! 😀

I wish you could come, too. Who knows? Maybe someday we’ll all get together and have an international event that will knock the socks off of central Florida. Oh, wait. Central Florida? We don’t much wear socks. We’re more of a sandals crowd. 😀 ❤

        • Ha! I agree, though to this day, I still see it, occasionally. 😯 😯

I find little places like this invaluable in helping me build a local readership, and I in turn, help them get a few new visitors through their doors, many of whom end up visiting on a regular basis for all sorts of events. It’s a win/win for me and for the museum. 😀 Hope you decide to give it a go one day. It is SO re-energizing and inspiring for me. I come home ready to write like the wind!!! 😀 😀 😀

    • It would be so much fun to see your smiling face in the audience, Judith. Or anywhere else, for that matter. I would SO love to meet you and the rest of this great group. I’m telling myself it might happen one day. After all, a few years ago, I belonged to a group that met annually in the North Carolina mountains, and there were folks from all over the world who came. It was always an adventure. It could happen again, someday, and when it does, you will HAVE to come! 🙂 ❤

    • So do I, Olga! What a good time that would be! And stranger things have happened in my life, for sure, involving a wonderful online group. It could happen to us someday, too! That’s my story, an’ I’m stickin’ to it!! 😀 ❤

    • Making sure it’s a fun time is always my first priority. No one is coming to these to earn points anywhere, so I figure if they don’t enjoy it, I’ll never see them again. Plus, I want to enjoy it, too. SO…fun is what we aim for, and if we learn a little bit along the way, so much the better! 😀 I love doing these! 😀

        • I think that’s the secret, Darlene. If you are eager to meet folks, they’ll usually be eager to meet you, too. And if you are excited about what you are sharing, that’s contagious. At least, that’s my theory. 😀 Good luck with your events!

    • Aw, thanks, Mae! I hope it goes over well, as I’d like to keep it in my “repertoire!” I appreciate your stopping by and encouraging me. Hope this next week will give you a bit more breathing room. It’s always nicer when you can stop by more often. 😀 Have a great weekend! ❤

    • Ha. I’m younger than I look, you know! And I hope you’re right. I’m looking forward to doing this one as a change of pace. We’ll see how it goes, fingers crossed.
