I’m back! Almost! Got my new pc and monitor this evening, and hooked it up. VERY happy with the lovely Hi-Def image, and the lightning fast speed of the new computer. Got a LOT to learn about Windows 10 and Outlook, neither of which I’ve used before. But I can do it! It might be another couple of days before I get “settled in,” but at least I’m not trying to dictate my posts via my iPhone.
Doing a happy dance here, even though it’s WAY past time for me to call it a night and retire with a book. Thanks for all the well wishes, guys, and rest assured, I’ll not be caught so poorly prepared for tech failure again. I’ve already bought a new tablet, for Back Up Plan #1, and I’m making up actual PAPER folders for important email and contact information to keep in anย actual physical file cabinet.ย That’s Back Up Plan #2.
I’ll sleep MUCH better tonight, now that I’m connected to the world again. ๐ See you tomorrow!

This what I like to hear, someone with PLANS! and the determination to follow them to the end…
Wishing you all the luck in the world with your new technology, me, I am green with envy that you can cope so well with it!

I’m BIG on PLANS, Jeanita! It’s the follow-through part where the trouble begins! ๐ Thanks for your encouragement, though. I’m gonna give this particular plan my best shot, while the horror of the last few days is still fresh. ๐

BTW, what WordPress theme is this? I am loving the paper effect!

It used to say at the bottom, but I can’t see it now. I[‘ll check elsewhere, and get back to you. Glad you like it. ๐

Okay, I checked this out. The theme is called Hemingway, but the background is a texture file I had stored in my graphics program, which sadly bit the dust during this ordeal. But you can plug in any background graphic you like in most of these themes, so you might look for sites that offer them. (They will be little squares of various colors and textures. Sorry I don’t still have this one, or I’d share.) Hope this helps. ๐

I have Happy Feet!! Sadly, now that I don’t use IncrediMail anymore, I’ve lost almost all of my personalized animations. ๐ฆ I enjoyed them very much for years, and I wish they could have been saved, but alas! All gone now. ๐ฆ Small price to pay for being back in business again, though. ๐

We will dance together, Carmen! But I’ll have to wait until I’ve finished trying to obtain all the programs I’ve lost. ๐ฆ What a job! However, I’m still happy because I can blog and write, and because this computer is awesome!!

Thanks, Mae! I’m SO happy to be back, and able to use a REAL, life-sized, ERGONOMIC keyboard again! No more tiny little keys too small for my fingers, and my eyes! ๐

I know. Typing on an iPhone is fine for texting, and an occasional email but anything more than that can be a challenge!

I can’t even do that on my phone. I have to dictate anything longer than two words! And my Transcription Entity doesn’t speak Southernese!!! ๐ฏ

Thanks, Tess! OH, so much work to do to get everything reinstalled again, and to find replacement programs for the ones that are no longer out there. Gleep. BUT. I love this computer. Mine was a TURTLE and this is a rocketship! Zoooom. ๐

I have a Mac and a PC (laptop). Eventually, you’ll learn to navigate Windows 10 and Word 2016. It will take time, but there’s no way around it. Glad you’re making progress!

I’m generally a pretty quick study, so I have hopes that this won’t be as hard as it looks right now. ๐ Thanks, Linda!

Yay! Great to have you back – and good on you for your plans. I recall starting the paper thing last time I had to change laptops, but sadly I’ve now lapsed.
On the other hand, I do always keep 2 laptops on the go at the same time, even if one is a tiddler, and a cloud backup for all my files.
Email address? Now that might be a problem…

Well, I had no worries about my files and photos. I have Carbonite back up, plus the Cloud, plus the guys at Geek Squad did a full transfer, which should have been faster. It was my dadblasted email program that caused all the problems and took so long. They were trying their best to save all of that, but my old computer would just freeze every time they started to export. (Exactly what it was doing to me, no matter what program I was in.) So, what I lost is all my email documentation & contacts from every event I’ve done around the state, plus my other personal and business correspondence.
PLUS, I had several programs that I used all the time, which aren’t available any longer. Those are history. And I’m trying to find anything as good, but so far, no luck. My graphics program was a huge loss to me. I’ve done digital painting for years, and also make a lot of memes and marketing stuff for my books, etc. No way to back programs up, if you don’t have it on disk. And even if I did, I doubt they are compatible with Windows 10. ๐ฆ Alas! BUT. I’ll find other ways to do what I want. It’s not going to stop me. And as long as I can write, I’ll be happy, regardless.
I shall prevail!!!! *marching off with head held high*

Nope. This one had already been used here, so I snagged it from the files. Sadly, I’ve lost all the custom ones I did. ๐ฆ But I am back. Mostly. My email went crazy today, and I had to spend nearly 3 hours online with Geek Squad Tech Support, remotely fixing things. Did I mention I HATE Outlook? I’m thinking I’ll open an account with gmail, and gradually phase over to it. It can’t be as bad as this!

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!!!! I hate Outlook too. ๐ฆ But sounds like you’re already getting a grasp of the new territory. It’ll get there slowly Marsh, one day at a time. ๐ โค

Outlook sucks with the strength of 10,000 Hoovers!!! There are no words for how much I hate it already. Windows 10 is merely annoying, because I have to learn where everything is now, but Outlook? Why would any person who wasn’t running a world-wide, multi-million dollar corporation with thousands of employees need all that crap??? I’ve already signed up for gmail, and will start making the transition over the next few weeks. It’s simple, easy to use, and has just enough options. I would prefer to store my emails on my own computer, but I’ll adapt. The only problem so far is that when I set up the Mobile app, it set it up for an old account I had there from years and years ago, and now I don’t know how to fix that. But I’m sure someone in the Help department will be able to sort it. I don’t need to use it, yet, since I haven’t even given out the new email addy to anyone but Erin.
But, I’m still NOT WRITING today, which is what I need to be doing. ๐ฆ Heading in that general direction though. Getting closer! Probably. ๐

I lost every single email, Deb, yours included. However, I’ve already added you back on my old account, AND on my gmail, which will eventually be the only one I use. So, it’s all good! ๐ Glad I made you laugh, too.

I had hundreds of emails from local venues, bookclubs, and other contacts. I’ve lost them all. I’m hoping a lot of them are on my Mail List, but I doubt if the newer ones are. I’m just going to have to try to find them manually on my OLD pc, which I can READ, but can’t input anything into. It won’t accept commands. But maybe if I can track them down there, I can manually type the contact info into the new pc. None of the actual emails, though. That’s been my biggest nightmare. Well, that and dealing with OUTLOOK!! I’m SO much happier already with gmail. ๐
