    • 😀 Good one. Yep, it is neither a crock nor a croc, but good ol’ Alligator mississippiensis. I actually have at least 6 other photos of alligators climbing up walls and over chain link fences. Gleeep. They are nothing if not resourceful, though for the life of me, I can’t see what this one could possibly be trying to reach.

    • Nope, not yet. Most of the ones closest to me are cruising the retention pond in the WalMart parking lot! But I can promise you, there’s not a river, lake, pond, or drainage ditch that doesn’t have a resident alligator of some size in it. People would be wise to accept that, and keep their arms and legs out!

        • Sorry to have misled you, Tess. That’s not my house, and not my guest. 🙂 It’s actually an alligator, which is definitely not the same thing as a croc, and I have no idea who the lucky homeowner was. But I’ve seen pictures like this over the years. I may have to do a post on gators and crocs in the near future, and share some of the surprising photos I’ve collected. Oh, and poking the gator? Probably not a good idea for anyone who isn’t a professional animal “relocator.” Unless, you know . . . you don’t mind being separated from your poker! 😯 I’m just sayin’ . . . . . . . 😀

            • I like something between me and alligators, too. Like my canoe. Or a locked front door! 😀 And I never, ever swim in any body of water that isn’t enclosed in turquoise concrete! (And even those, I check out pretty thoroughly before jumping in.) In Florida, alligators are widespread. Crocodiles are mostly confined to the very tip of the state, and are much rarer. There’s a distinct difference in coloration and how they look overall, and in their behavior, and habitat. I’m going to do a post one of these days, because it’s interesting to me, and might be so to others. Besides, I have a folder full of amazing pictures. 😀

              I am a big fan of reptiles, and find them ALL pretty interesting. Except Komodo dragons. Now THOSE make me shudder. Eeeww. There’s a reason Swamp Ghosts has an alligator on the cover. 😉 Besides the fact that they are featured in the story in several different ways.

    • Yes, it’s real. Though gators are everywhere, having one come to your door like this is a bit unusual. You do you see them crossing the roads from lake to lake, and if your house is on a lake or a river, you might find one in your backyard. Pretty nearly every body of water, even drainage ditches, has them swimming in it somewhere. But they usually don’t try to ring your doorbell, like this one appears to be doing. I really have no idea what it’s after. But I have several other similar photos, so it happens from time to time.
