It was a dark and stormy night . . .
. . . at sea . . .
. . . on another planet .
There’s a reason “a dark and stormy night” is such a cliché, you know–there’s hardly a more dramatic setting imaginable–so I thought it would be fun to share some storm images with you today. I suspect there’s inspiration to be found amid these pictures, and I hope you enjoy looking through them. (But you might want to use a different opening line when you start your own dark and stormy tale . . . if you want to be taken seriously, that is.) Check ’em out and let your imagination soar.

Those clouds are amazing. I was taking pictures of black clouds over the cliffs today – not quite as dramatic. But I think I would go for the first picture for story inspiration; so atmospheric, two strangers, could be any time or city.

I liked the first one, too. Lots of possibilities. But then again, I can think of some ways to use nature in all her fury, too. I’ll bet Rachel Caine’s Weather Wardens series was inspired by pictures just like these. 😀 Nice to see you, Janet! Have a great week!

Wow, those are certainly inspirational pics Marcia. It looks as though you were close to those storms by the detailed shots. But nah, certainly if you were in those storms there would be a book about them? 🙂

Honey, if I’d taken those pictures, I’d have a whole ‘nuther career going! Amazing photography. And if storms like that were heading my way, I’d be in the STORM CELLAR. Oh, wait. Florida is a sea level (barely) state. Hmmm. No basements. Or storm cellars. In which case, I’d be driving north as fast as I could. 😯 I don’t do storms if I can help it. Been through too many hurricanes, huddled in the dark, listening to the battery operated radio to see if we were going to be washed away by morning. Eeeeek.
But they DO inspire me to write. So, you just don’t know what might be coming up in my next book. 😀

Glad it gave you a chuckle. Yeah, even if I was a professional photographer, there’s no way I’d be heading TOWARD storms like those, with my head out the window, taking pictures. Nuh-uh. (Thinking of the scene in Twister, with flying bovines. “Cows. We have cows.”) Nope. Not for me. I’m going the other direction as fast as I can. 😀

Thanks for thinking of us. I’m still pushing the system with my bullshead. I’m finally getting him back to hospital today for a drainage. Praying it works. 🙂

Hey, just because I like snakes doesn’t mean I rush headlong into danger at every opportunity, you know. 😀 I’m far more afraid of high winds and lightning than reptiles. And with good reason. They do a whole lot more damage. (Says she, after standing at her door last summer, watching as an enormous oak in the front yard toppled, spanning the distance from the middle of our yard, across the road, and halfway across the neighbor’s yard.) I’ll take my sweet little black racers, any day. 😀
You keep on being bullheaded, if it gets results, and it usually does. If YOU don’t look out for you and yours, who will? Good luck!
